2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pours an Extremely opaque orange. Looks like apple cider. one and a half fingers of off white head. Very little lacing. Nose is very hoppy and bitter. Pine, citrus and bitter hops. The resin and citrus mix is very potent. A lot of grapefruit, pineapple and floral notes. Mouth is bitter With a decent hop bite. Sort of bland for my hop preference. A slight sweetness is present but its not much. Resin is more present here. Average beer, but definitely not engaging like the label says.
Draft @ Beer Temple, 5 oz sample. Hazy golden color. Big white head. Aroma’s: very faint, not much at all actually. Retronasal there is a bit - light fruit, light earthy and bitter. Flavor is moderate bitter, but faint, also light sweetness. Light bodied. Finishes with light bitterness. Not sure whether this wasn’t fresh anymore or just meh. 12 oz bottle on 30th Sep 2016: The Crown Inn, Oakengates. Dull dark orange bodied brew with a thin head and collar. Piney and resiny hops rule both the nose and taste. My delicate English palate could just about manage the hops, I personally would have prefered a little more sweetness in the brew, but I did enjoy the experience of drinking this. muzzlehatch (4959) - Beloit, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 29, 2016
12 ounce bottle from Badger Spirits in Beloit, WI, drunk 5 minutes out of the fridge from a Fitger’s pint glass. As usual with this brewery, lovely to look at - a big stable creamy head that looks like odd-colored whipped cream, topping a bright, hazy, yeasty amber body...aromas fairly typical: cirtrus (orange, lime) and piney hops, light toasted malt hints...body is moderately sweet, lightly spicy - touches of things like cinnamon and ginger - and growing in bitterness towards a dry, woody finish...body is very full, more yeasty than typical with a pale ale, carbonation a bit on the low side. While this is not after one try one of my favorites from this brewery, I’m a bit surprised at the very low average rating, though it does seem like more recent ratings have been a bit higher than earlier ones; perhaps the recipe or bottling or something else has improved over time. At any rate for me another indicator of the quality of this brewery, and if I don’t end up buying this again anytime soon it’s more due to the insane numbers of better pale ales available these days around me.
