Taster pour at Big Barrel Tararrel 2013, and then back for full sizes. Thick opaque red-brown. Big off-white head. Wow. This really works. Captures some of the subtle lactic Oud Bruin notes quite well. A touch big for the style, but really refreshingly funky and great. Not unlike a full bodied Rodenbach. Sampled at the GTMW2013 pre-party at Blue Moon in Madison, Wisconsin. Pours a ruddy reddish brown with a tan head. Aroma is funky, earthy, with some dusty basement aromas. Caramel and biscuity notes are there as well. Flavor bretty and funky with some caramel and red fruit sweetness. Medium bodied, nice slick texture, finishes tart. On tap at GTMW - Pours hazy amber with a white head. Nose is bready, with light funk. Really not much on the nose. Taste is light bread, real gentle sourness, with a good bready base. No hops. Draft pour on tap at GTMW 2012 (Madison, WI). Pours a richer darker copper hue, some brownish elements and haze in the middle. Frothy tannish head is thicker, laces well. Aromas are a bit funky, dry, dusty. Some grass, gentle funk, straw, and some touches of carmelization. Biscuit, toffee, funk. Mellow. Initial is medium bodied, a bit lighter perhaps with gentle funk, dust, and straw. Kisses of horseblanket moving into a more carmelized mellow sweet middle, with toffee, a touchof red fruit. A touch sticky, the backend offers some dryness and funk returning to the fold. Mellow brett experiment that let’s the base still has some say. On tap at Vintage, pours a dark reddish brown with a very thin head, the aroma has a slight funk with a good amount of fruit, the flavor has a very soft front end with a slight sour finish, more fruit flavor than funk or any kind of sourness. Seems a little toned down for a sour, still excited to see these guys making stuff like this.

On tap at Vintage Brewpub Big Barrel Tararrel as Bretten Red. Hazy brownish amber with no head. Aroma of oak, tannins, sourness, mild funk and fruit. Sampled special tapping at the Oso Brewhaus in Plover, Wisconsin. Pours a semi-clear dark brown amber colored brew with a thick bubbly beige head that slowly dissipates to some film top and spotty lacing. Aroma of tart dark berries, caramel malt, some brettanomyces funk and a hint of tart pear. Taste is medium bodied, well-balanced in caramel malt and sour profile flavors without any high carbonation. Finish has a mild caramel malt and short lived tart berry aftertaste.
