Bottle. Black in colour. Totally Flat; Zero Carbonation; presumably it shouldn’t be like this. Malty; roasty malts, coffee, liquorice, some chocolate. Hoppy; aroma hops. Very very Salty. Sour malt/hops throughout. Possibly a poor bottle from Otley. Disappointing. Need to try again, possibly on cask. (2011-08-20)

from le Mondial de la Bière 2011, Strasbourg - very dark brown beer with no foam; aroma of raisins and cocoa with notes of ashes as well; almost no carbonation, thin-bodied and with a dry earthy and cocoa-like finish - slightly roasted

20 June 2011, bottle. really dark amber, no bubbles, bubbly thin head. unique nose! wet earth, faint bubble gum, smoked malt, sausage, compost, strong cheese. starts to remind me of rank toilet water(?). thin, oily body and barely fizzy. cap didn’t fizz when i opened it and maybe that has something to do with body and/or aroma and taste. nice enough. musty earth, dry oatmeal and peat flavours. ok but the more i have the less impressed i am.

50cl bottle, courtesy of Blairgus. Pours like flat cola, need I say more?! The nose is very interesting - smokey, chocolate, strong cheese and something earthy. The taste has burnt dark chocolate, some pistachio nuts, with a hoppy/burnt finish. The palate has a medium body, with a thin texture and a burnt finish. Overall, it peaks at the nose but then falls away fairly rapidly, but the nose keeps me interested..

Diogène (1208) - Mirabel, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 10, 2011
Bottle at Mondial de la bière 2011. Very dark brown with a very thin beige head with average retention. Aroma is toasted and roasted malt, ashes, tobacco, wet leather and nutty notes. Flavor is dark and roasted malt, moderate sweetness and a hint of acidity. Almost no carbonation with a thin to medium body. Infected?

Cask at Euston Tap. Darek, red_brown with a sturdy, off-white head. Some roast and wood on the nose. Light sweet, smokey, woody, ashy. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Sharp ash on the finish, wood, faint cocoa and plenty of lasting roast. Nice.

rlgk (18852) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - MAY 12, 2011
Black with a very small brown head. Tar and licorice aroma. Watery tar flavor, rather flat and boring.

Bullit (4684) - Burgos, SPAIN - MAR 14, 2011
Cask @ 3 Judges. Dark ruby-red brownish colour, off-white head. Aroma is light roasted malts, sweet vanilla and perhaps lemon? Flavour is roasted malts, hint of coffee, fruits and some hoppyness. Dry and bitter finish.

(bottle conditioned) i’d say this was stout and not mild ale as listed on the database. a nice flava profolio..roasty ,chocolaty ,rich -then lighty tart dark fruit ..oily and chewey ..Could be more full bodied

leaparsons (10708) - Wigston, Leicestershire, ENGLAND - FEB 5, 2011
Bottle. Dark brown with minimal foam. Aromas are roast malts with hazelnut coffee syrup and leather and cigarette ash. Dark chocolate with some berries. Flavours are thin, bitter coffee with lots of smokiness. Chocolate with liquorish and nuts. Very dry with a pithy grapefruit bitter finish. Nearly very decent but lacks body.
