bottled. deep and dank shade of copper with a steady white head. aroma of fruit salad with cream and a bit of cocoa powder on top. quite grassy, molasses, pine, tar, plenty of roasty bitterness, really buttery texture. i’d just about given up on ever getting excited by a dunkel again but i thought this was great JoeinDahlem (1588) - Berlin, GERMANY - APR 8, 2015
Bottle. Interesting, refreshing, spicy-bitter red beer. Bright red-amber color, some lingering foam. Fruity caramel nose, sweet roast apple note, light whiff of smoke. Tastes tangy and dry, with a light acidity, mild caramel, overmatched by a firm, earthy-spicy hop-bitterness that leaves a nice stamp of residue on the tongue. Definitely not another sweetish, drab Dunkel -- this one is different. Possibly addictive. maeib (8749) - Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, ENGLAND - JAN 6, 2013
Bottled 04/01/13. A dark dark brown coloured beer with an off-white pool of head. A smoky and roasty nose. Sweet fruity malty taste. A pretty good body. A nice dunkel which tastes fairly strong too. I liked this. fiammanghilla (973) - Genova, ITALY - JUL 17, 2015

Bottle. Chestnut, fine carbonation, creamy off-white head. Nice toasted bready aroma, hop nuances. Chewy mouthfeel, good body, present but not cloying sweetness. Light nutty and roasted notes, fitting bitter and aromatic hop counterpoint. Quite drinkable and moreish.

Day Two of the Great Chris Meyer/Aaron Nielsen Franconian Beer Tasting in Schlitz. Prost! Hazy, reddish orange appearance with an off white head. Rich malty, nutty caramel nose. A bit spicy, rich caramel malty, toasty, somewhat floral/chalky flavor. harrisoni (19024) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - MAY 12, 2015
Bottle at Zapfhahn Bamberg. brown reddish clear beer lasting beige head. some spicyness. really easy drinking. went with the sweetish burger I had well. like a rye spicy aroma. drinkable in the mouth. finish spicy and refined. almost cola like. I liked it. Odd but utterly drinkable. lello4ever (1123) - ITALY - OCT 2, 2016
Colore ambra chiaro, per una Dunkel é piuttosto chiara. Schiuma bianca abbastanza. Aroma di malto e note erbacee. Bene al palato, molto dolce di malto e amaro quasi assente. Carbonazione medio bassa. Non male. Gangstergafje (1186) - Capelle aan den IJssel, NETHERLANDS - DEC 12, 2016
The beer has a proper look. The color of the beer is a nice dark orang, almost brown color. You might as well call it an orangey brown. The beer seems quite clear. On top of the beer a nice layer of greyish foam is formed. The bulk of the foam collapses quickly, leaving a thin drape. It’s a bit light for the beer type I think.
The smell is nice. I smell a very strong malty aroma at first. This contains a lovely sweeties, and a tiny salty touch. It’s a bit bready, in a good way. I like it. It reminds me a bit of the malt soda they have in the baltic states. Besides the heavy malts, there is a tiny hoppy bitterness. I like the smell. It reminds me of holidays to Eastern Germany and the Baltics.
The taste of the beer is nice. There is a lovely malty sweetness and slight saltiness. This is balanced by a lovely fresh bitterness of hops and a fruity sweet touch. Its in good balance. I like the beer. It’s a good one. The palate contributes to the test in a good way. Dixen (1465) - Flagstaff, Arizona, USA - APR 6, 2006
Light sweet bready nose, notes of light caramel and light grain. Amber colored body with a medium sized off-white head. Malty and quite grainy flavor, with very light hops in the end.
