Cask at The Anchor, Beer. Distinctincly average ale with very little to talk about but a nice taste of England with a view of the sea in Devon to go with.

Handpull cask at the Gate, Sawbridgeworth. Dark brown with a reddish hue. Fairly clear. A ring of off-white head. Light malty aroma with some blackberry and a slight forest floor suggestion. Taste is also light, so much so that I only really taste my previous beer. Bittersweet with a short finish. I drank loads of this when I lived in Devon pre-RB. Either it doesn’t travel well, or the recipe has changed, or my taste has moved on. It’s ok but nothing special.

Pours a half finger of head on a clear darker straw body. Aroma is fruity. Taste is clean with mild fruit and a tiny bitterness. Texture is smooth.

Aroma: hints of caramel and citrus. Appearance: clear golden colour with minimal white head. Taste: follows the nose with some roasted malt flavour.

Bottle. Pours a clear deep golden colour with a very thin white head. Aroma of caramel, toasted malts, slight red berries and subtle spicy orange. Taste of caramel, toasted malts, slight orange, a little spice, a hint of mineral and subtle bready malts. Light bodied and soft carbonation. A short, dry, malty bitterness in the finish. Not a lot going on, very malt dominated with a little bitterness in the finish. It’s ok but boring.

Pint on cask at the Rotunda. Pours a somewhat cloudy reddish-brown with a tan head. Malt dominates the aroma and the flavour, not a whole lot else seemed to be going on, bit of sweetness, only a touch of bitterness.

Straight from the cask at the Horseshoe Inn. Pours a rich copper with virtually no head. Aroma is dry with a little spice and toffee. Taste is bitter with a nice caramel malt note. Everything is very subdued, including the strength, which is ideal for a long session.

Cask at the Cross Keys, Chelsea. It pours a clean rich golden color with a small beige head. Aroma is bready and sweet, with notes of caramel, biscuit and crackers. Taste is also grainy and sweet with more notes of caramel and stale bread. Light bodied with soft carbonation. Overall, ok

Cask at the Start Bay Inn, re-badged as Start Bay Bitter, 27/04/16. Golden copper with q decent off white head. Nose is sweet malt, grain, light bread dough, faint citric aroma. Taste comprises caramel, grain. biscuit, orange rind, straw. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close. Ok bitter.
