The first whiff of the aroma is inviting with a pulse of aged muted pine hops, some mild dark fruit, grains, malts and late in the draw mild vegetation. Hmm. The taste has an initial blunted spike of pine hops followed by blended sweet malts and lightly roasted malts. It ends with some hoppiness and an annoying level of soapiness. Bouteille de 12 oz achetée au Cabot Annex Store (Waterbury Center, VT). Arôme: Légère odeur d’épices. Apparence: Couleur ambrée avec une faible densité de bulle. Présence d’un mince col mousseux beige et d’une fine dentelle sur le verre. Saveur: Goût de caramel et de poivre. Durée moyenne de l’arrière goût. Palette: Le corps est moyen avec une texture mince. Bottle shared with HogTownHarry & tupalev -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a clear amber with a small diminishing white head. Nice aroma of caramel malt, brown sugar and hops. The flavour was quite surprising, there’s something odd in there and I’m at a loss to try and explain it. It did go away after the first few sips though and for the most part the flavour follows the aroma. Bottle (12oz). Shared with blankboy and tupalev, my bottle. Poured clear copper with a small white dimishing head. Aroma a blend of mild rich hops, light caramel malt, with a bit of burnt candy and fruit. Taste was initially harshly metallic, but the pleasant aspects of the aroma came out on warming. Very dark amber with thin, but gluey head. Sweet bread aroma. The flavor is very piney with a hint of a mediciney finish. Weak body.

11/24/04 bottle consumed 6/16/2005. Ruby and orange, slight copper and rust tones. Off-white head recedes to ring, little to no lacing, mostly clear. Smells of fruity hops, cherries, apples, oranges. Definite alcohol as well, which is rather unwelcome. Minty hops notes and cherry fruit notes go side-by-side with the alcohol. Flavor is cherries, oranges, caramel malt, orange hard candies and alcohol. Some spearmint, perhaps. Good malt sweetness, lightly sugary. Mouthfeel is easygoing and the carbonation does not make itself known (not that it’s flat, it just stays out of the way). Lightly bitter and just way too much alcohol apparency. Retronasal is cherries, strawberries, plums. Good caramel malt on end, very fresh and well-extracted. Caramelly, sugary, chewy mouthfeel. Medium body. #1456 bottled 11/24/03... Poured an amber color with head that barely existed. Sweet caramel malt aroma. Malty, some sweetness, and as it got very warm, a bit of hops were detected but overall this was a rather weak brew, although no bad tasting flavors here... Reddish hue with frothy white head and very good lace. Aroma is yeasty, woody, with light apple and caramel tones. The taste starts spicy and fruity with some smoky character undertone. Orangey Copper, thin tan head. Fruity sweet aroma. Note of grapefruit and toast, like if someone made grapefruit jelly and put it on slightly burnt toast. Does anybody make grapefruit jelly? I mean, grapefruit is a breakfast food, and so is toast. I seems like a natural. I’m going to see if I can find any. Pours copper with a thin off white head. Smells sweet and fruity. Tastes earthy and sweet. Basic amber ale.
