Bottle. Pours a clear dark black with some crimson highlights under a large tanned beige head. Some nice coffee roast and a bit of pungent earthy hops on the nose. Medium bodied, slightly odd sharp tastes in here, slightly roasty and a bit of hops but really just empty in the middle. Finishes up with some slight roast and a bit of grapefruit bitterness. Pours black into a shaker. Off-white head with good retention recedes to skim surface. Dark caramel and resin aromas. Sweet and sour pumpernickel upfront turning citrusy in the lasting roasty finish. TheGB (579) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JAN 25, 2011

On tap at the mountain bar at Smuggler’s Notch VT. Deep black color with white head that did not last. Good punch of citrus and slight grass hops. The taste was at first bitter with citrus but that dark musky malt and chocolate just slipped in for a nice finish. Draft at Rattle n Hum sampled with Andrew. Pours a stouty red body with small head. Aroma is light slightly floral and roasty. Mouthfeel is medium, well balanced - with notes of floral hops.

Sampled at Great Real NY. A pleasent surprise from Otter Creek... good coffee flavor. Well put together black ipa.
Draft at Commercial Taphouse. Otter Creek is one of those brewers whose standard line up I don’t care for, but every now and then they do a special release that really is quite nice. This is one of those times. Poured a black, brown at edges, slight white head. Aroma is a pleasant mix of roasted malt, slight caramel, and then citrus accented hops, good balance. This was a fairly light to medium bodied beer, the roast notes intermingling perfectly with grapefruit, apricot, and pine accented hops. Really nice. 12oz Bottle, purchased at Wakefield Liquors - Wakefield, RI. Sinamar/carafa nose, with bunch-pine hops nose. Yawn, this still is getting worn out. There’s no variation on it. German roast malt with C-hops at a just under IPA gravity. Plus, it’s another one of those beers where you can hide lack of finesse. This one is too sweet and there isn’t enough roast nor hops to make up for it. State Line Liquors tasting. Pours a dark almost jet black with a nice thick and creamy dark brown head that turns into lots of nice light lacing. There are light aromas of citrus hops in the nose along with some hints of roasted malts. Has a medium amount of bitterness in the taste, which has flavors of caramel, citrus and roasted malts along with some hints of pepper. Medium bodied and relatively smooth and creamy.
