12oz into a pint, color is dark midnight, black magic marker. Taste is malty, roasty, dark choco, mixed nuts, grainy granola, and sweet sugared molasses. Head is tiny and leaves an inconsisten ring round the glass. Body is full, mouthfeel is dry and sweet. Name fits the beer, as one can picture either enjoying one near a stovepipe or in a stovepipe. Nice VT brew.

oured from 12oz bottle a near pitch black with a small head of foam that dissipated quickly leaving just a fine ring and layer.
The smell has good roastiness to it with strong chocolate notes.
The taste is of roasted malt with a bit of chocolate up front and some hoppy bitterness comes through near the end but the finish is actually on the sweetish side.
All of the flavours I mentioned are on the light side so this is one very smooth American Porter. I'd say, give it a try. alexsdad06 (10800) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - JUL 22, 2017
Bottle from backlog notes. Pours a dark cola brown color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malts, sour coffee, earthy, thin, a strange combination, I noted that I would never drink this again and I was right. BeerRenter76 (1034) - Texas, USA - SEP 24, 2016
Originally rated on 12/10/08. "A slightly above average porter, stovepipe poured a very deep amber almost black body, plenty of carbontion but not much head or lace. Mouthfeel was a little thin and slightly bitter. Aroma and taste were standard with hints of toasted malts, some chocolate and coffee. O.k. but not great. tekstr1der (501) - New Hampshire, USA - NOV 27, 2014
First experienced on tap at Mad Mountain Tavern, this porter convinced me, in a good way, that there was soot in the recipe. One of my all-time favorite porters, it’s with great sadness that I learn it is no longer being produced. For that matter, MMT is closed as well. So goes the impermanence of life I suppose. slowrunner77 (12804) - Reno, Nevada, USA - OCT 21, 2014
"great balanced beer...not sure why this one is as low. it’s pretty stinkin good. definitely above average, but i guess there’s a lot of competition in this category."

12oz bottle. Pours a very dark brown color with a big light tan head that falls quickly. Smell is sweet and chocolatey with a hint of hops. Roasted malt flavor with moderate hop bitterness. Nice balance of malt and hops. Light bodied with a dry roasty coffee-like finish.
