Originally rated on 12/10/08. "A slightly above average porter, stovepipe poured a very deep amber almost black body, plenty of carbontion but not much head or lace. Mouthfeel was a little thin and slightly bitter. Aroma and taste were standard with hints of toasted malts, some chocolate and coffee. O.k. but not great. tekstr1der (481) - New Hampshire, USA - NOV 27, 2014
First experienced on tap at Mad Mountain Tavern, this porter convinced me, in a good way, that there was soot in the recipe. One of my all-time favorite porters, it’s with great sadness that I learn it is no longer being produced. For that matter, MMT is closed as well. So goes the impermanence of life I suppose. slowrunner77 (11911) - Reno, Nevada, USA - OCT 21, 2014
"great balanced beer...not sure why this one is as low. it’s pretty stinkin good. definitely above average, but i guess there’s a lot of competition in this category." KyotoLefty (10193) - Kyoto, JAPAN - AUG 9, 2014
Tap at Macgregors in Gates. Old notes. Sweet chocolate but well roasted to balance. Very chewy and rich. Fruit flavor come in well too. Sturdy and flavorful. Patrickctenchi (6548) - Cox’s Knob, columbus, Indiana, USA - APR 8, 2014

12oz bottle. Pours a very dark brown color with a big light tan head that falls quickly. Smell is sweet and chocolatey with a hint of hops. Roasted malt flavor with moderate hop bitterness. Nice balance of malt and hops. Light bodied with a dry roasty coffee-like finish.

pours clear light brown with a decent moka head, some retention. nutty, roastiness, grassy, hint of minerals. moderate carbonation, light body - not watery, nice herbal finish. sort of classic but falls a bit short. jrodooo5 (1637) - DOVER, Delaware, USA - JUN 18, 2013
A nice deep dark pour with a mocha head that quickly fizzles without much lacing. Th aroma has a great coffee aroma with some hints of chocolate. The taste is roasty and finishes a touch bitter - very true to porter form. This a good solid example of the style! It’s a touch thin in body but tasty nevertheless!
