3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Hazy reddish brown pour with no head. Butterscotch, ethanol predominant in the nose. Smells delicious. Big slap of ethanol immediately hits you, butterscotch esters start to come through and it finishes with heavy chewy malts. A bit unbalanced, should shelve this for a while and try it again.
This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a slim finger’s worth of white to off white foamy head that dissipated pretty quickly.
The smell starts off with sweet milk and dark chocolate and a light coffee to balance underneath slightly.
The taste was mainly sweet through the milk and dark chocolate. A light sweet sticky chocolate aftertaste runs into a sticky sweet cocoa finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fair sipping quality about it. Carbonation seemed to be barely there - I’m thinking the bottle was a bit old, eh, no worries.
Overall, I’d say that this was a pretty good American Strong Ale that I would have again. nasmith003 (252) - Virginia, USA - APR 4, 2015
Malty aroma with hints of bourbon. Amber color. Strong malt backbone only slightly cut by the hops. Finishes with a malt aftertaste. Luvystypotables (1967) - Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA - APR 4, 2015

Bottle that I had in my beer cellar for 2 years. Poured dark amber with a small off-white head, no lace.. The malt aroma was caramel with light hops. The body was medium texture and creamy, with soft carbonation. There was a sweet flavor that I couldn’t quite place, but there was a very nice balance between the malts and hops. The alcohol was partly hidden by the malt. Very warming. AmericanHobo (70) - Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 7, 2014
A nice copper ale that has a bold, complex malty taste. A bit chewy but would never guess its 12% Beerdedone (3408) - Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 1, 2014
