Shared with Hogtown harry and Blankboy, Harry’s bottle. Deep orange/brown, very little head, looks flat. Fruity, bread notes, hint of sourness in aroma. Taste is good - lots of earthy caramel, some hops, nice sweetness, assertive. A tad watery - medium, to thin body. Not bad. bonbright7 (181) - Jacksonville, Florida, USA - OCT 13, 2007
This poured with very little head into a tall pint glass and appeared to be an interesting color of red-brown-and gold when held to the light. I liked the ESB style that came forward in a rich aftertaste. This would have been good for casual sipping with a fat roast beef hero. Bottle (500ml). Shared with blankboy and tupalev, my bottle. Cloudy ruby-amber with a small frothy wisp of head. Light, dry, herbal aroma, raisins and light cherry - odd (6-). Taste is dry, herbal bitter, light sweet malt, roasty, vague dry cocoa in the finish. Watery, thin body, solid dry astringency, the malt finishes quickly, dry spicy yeast lingers for quite a while. The taste really saves this one, the mouthfeel and aroma aren’t that solid. jcwattsrugger (12420) - Florida and, New Jersey, USA - OCT 10, 2007
16.9oz bottle-pours a foamy to bubbly tan head and hazy copper/light brown color. Aroma is caramel-medium malt, faint fruit. Taste is sweet caramel-medium malt, secondary fruit, faint metallic hops-slight bitterness. Medium body, soft carbonation. Thanks jwc215 for sharing. freekyp (2235) - Thomasville, North Carolina, USA - OCT 7, 2007
Part of an English Bitter tasting in Ocean NJ on 10/06/2007. Pours a slightly cloudy dark amber, courtesy of bottle conditioning. Aroma is buttery with a definite candy character. The flavor is much the same, with a light insistent sweetness. Hops tend to become more apparent towards the end of the swallow, with the malt dropping off quickly and the bitterness increasing resulting in a long hoppy finish. I could have used a bit less of the candy character in the malt.

UPDATED: JAN 27, 2009 500 ml. Copper-orange and cloudy with a medium-sized creamy head that lasts. Nice crunchy lacing. Earthy, spicy caramel aroma. Flavor is similar but more complex: scorched toffee, chocolate, charred wood, toasted nut, prickly earth-spiced marshmallows, some sour fruit notes and more. Palate is smooth and tingly; medium-plus bodied. This is an awesome and underrated ESB. ganache (5898) - New Jersey, USA - SEP 28, 2007
Bottle. Sweet fruity malt aroma, yeasty apple cider with bubblegum. Opaque cloudy brown pour with a delicious creamy beige head. Medially bitter taste, nuts and strong caramel mixed with light roast and earthy toffee. Soft mouthfeel, saliva-inducing flavor and a medium-thick body. Abrupt dry finish and aftertaste. No carbonation here at all. Somewhat vegetal tone, in line with a pumpkin beer but without that specific flavor. All malt and no hops. Very drinkable, but not really a standalone brew. Rich red, little to no head. Slightly chocolatey malty aroma. Taste matches - slightly yeasty hint but then there’s a great chocolatey malt blast. Long bitter finish too. Good strong ale. Grovlam (4247) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - SEP 22, 2007
Bottle. Three finger thick beige head that mostly lasted. Clear light sparkling body with a lovely amber color. Good display of lacework. Aroma of floral, citrus, light ashtray, caramel, fruit, grain, bread, nutty and roasted malty notes. Medium to full bodied with a light dry texture and a soft carbonation. Moderated bitter flavor with counter sweetness. Light dry and lingering bitter finish. Very nice ESB, one of the better ESB so far. argo0 (14127) - Washington DC, USA - SEP 18, 2007
(50cl bottle) Minimal beige head atop murky caramel body. Aroma is moderately sweet, butterscotch, toffee. Taste is medium sweet, toffee, some caramel, earthy, tea, orange, light peach. Watery light-medium body, low carbonation, quite drinkable.
