Wet earth, caramel, toffee, chocolate and molasses in the sweet aroma. Clear deep mahogany coloured body is topped by a fine bubbled and lasting, off white head that coats the glass. Strong malt forward flavour evokes toffee, caramel, chocolate with a hint of butterscotch. Light bitterness offsets all that sweetness. Medium body with fair carbonation that is gently effervescent. Cask. I think I had this at The Old Inn in Widecombe on the Moor. faroeviking (11331) - Chupando chellas es como ellas, FAROE ISLANDS - JAN 29, 2007
Bottle. Amber colour with a nice frothy white head that lasts for a while. Aroma is quite fruity with toasty caramel and bitter hops. Flavour is quite smooth and fresh, with fruity hops, little bit of vanilla, toasty caramel and nice toasty malts. Dry bitter finish. shalloWMeans (169) - Independence, Kentucky, USA - NOV 15, 2007
UPDATED: APR 23, 2008 Recently, I had the opportunity to attend a formal beer rating and be in charge of pouring the beers! Of course everything I poured I also got to sample afterward, and this was the first of ten beers on the list. I am huge fan of the premium bitters style and this is a perfect example, quintessentially English. It pours a hazy amber/mahogany, almost rust color and smells fruity and slightly floral, with a faint whiskeyish tinge. Wonderful malt/hop balance and just the right amount of yeast and bitterness, with a nice-mellow finish. I have since bought this beer many times. It is a perfect sit-sown session beer, extremely fresh and thirst-quenching. Fukito (1064) - Santiago, CHILE - MAR 30, 2007
Bottle at Proeflokaal, march 07, shared with that dutchman, Jbrus. Very nice, bittersweet spicy aroma. Great spicy, fruity, nutty flavor with some light caramel notes. Chewy, biscuity malt and a nice filling sensation. Golden, shinny color and a nice white head. Very nice chatty ESB with a nutty touch Schroppfy (2362) - Łódż, Warsaw, Poland; Michigan, Ohio, USA - JUN 23, 2007
Totally fruity and toasty, bready. Melds together very well. Peach in the aroma. Minerally water. I could drink this all day. I love this type of English bitterness.

Hazy deep copper brown body with a light tan head. Marischino cherries and light caramel notes come out at first in the nose. Then you also get some peanuts. Milk chocolate and iced tea are in the flavors. There is also some light hints of orange peel citrus in the finish. A nicely balanced and interesting ESB. More well hopped than many similar beers I have tried. martinrumsam (572) - BARNSTAPLE, Devon, ENGLAND - AUG 3, 2013

A good beer. gegwilson (3827) - North Yorkshire, ENGLAND - JUN 8, 2014

Pours a deep amber with an off white head. The nose is greeted with the aromas of caramel, fruit, and toffee. Flavor has caramel, fruit, and hops. Sammy (12995) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 3, 2007
Light-golden body with lace and a bit of foam. Faint smell hops. A fresh ale, as if it was tapped a day ago, of understated and malted hoppy ale, not too bitter. Above average carbonation for a UK produced ale. Very drinkable, medium mouthfeel. Citrus and lightly grapefruity.
