Light-golden body with lace and a bit of foam. Faint smell hops. A fresh ale, as if it was tapped a day ago, of understated and malted hoppy ale, not too bitter. Above average carbonation for a UK produced ale. Very drinkable, medium mouthfeel. Citrus and lightly grapefruity.

Bottle. Copper, a bit unclear body with a beige head. Biscuity, malty nose with a nice hoppiness and some sweetish notes. Quite malty flavor, some sweetness, and a nice hoppiness to balance it. Medium to full body. A really nice Otter. (070608) HogcliffeLenny (162) - Christchurch, Dorset, ENGLAND - JUL 22, 2007
Bottle 500ml. Pours a copper brown with a rich off-white head. Sweet aromas of caramel and dark fruits. Wonderful malts come through in the caramel, molasses and black cherry flavours. Full on flavours, nothing subtle about them. Hops kicking in on the finish for a good bitterness. Fairly full-bodied with light to medium carbonation. bonbright7 (182) - Jacksonville, Florida, USA - OCT 13, 2007
This poured with very little head into a tall pint glass and appeared to be an interesting color of red-brown-and gold when held to the light. I liked the ESB style that came forward in a rich aftertaste. This would have been good for casual sipping with a fat roast beef hero. thornecb (6060) - Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA - OCT 21, 2007
Pours hazy amber into an English pint. White head quickly subsides to pancake surface. Caramel and resin aromas. Silky with upfront caramel and a lasting sour malt finish.

Pours a two finger cream head that fades slowly to a thin layer, leaving some lace. Cloudy amber color. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Caramel nose. Flavor is sweet caramel that changes to a slight bitter finish. $4.35 for a 500ml bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma. notalush (5922) - Lakewood, Colorado, USA - JUL 31, 2008
Cloudy amber beer, with a very small, fizzy lace - quite a yeasty and bready aroma, with a lot of caramel, toffee, and nutty character, and a soft underlying earthiness - the flavor starts off with moderate fuggles bitterness and strong herbal, tea-like qualities - this quickly makes way for brown sugar, toffee, and hazelnut - some subtle notes of citrus and fruit pulp - yeasty near the finish - there is a nice earthiness to this one throughout, which lends a nice dimension, and makes the beer stand out - very bready at the end - different and interesting. Draught. Clear coppery brown, good thick white head. Slightly tangy aroma, maybe apples. Creamy body with medium carbonation. Fairly tangy fruity foretaste with finish that is moderately bitter and has a malty marmitey lingering taste. Nice beer.

Well I thought I liked esb’s then maybe not. then there was this one. Pretty good. Not overall what I look for in appearance but good bitter taste. Would enjoy a bit more hops. maeib (8749) - Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, ENGLAND - MAY 15, 2012
Bottled 06/05/12. A russet coloured beer with an off-white ring of head. A fruity aroma with sweet and slightly sugary notes. Predominantly malty but the hops are there too and give good fruitiness. A nice long finish. Boozy and tasty.8
