Tap. Pours black with a large, creamy light tan head, medium retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is toast, chocolate and coffee malt, leather yeast with dark fruity esters. Flavor is malt dominant with light hops and medium bitterness, dark fruity esters, leather and faint peat notes with a dry finish. Light body and warmth with medium carbonation.

on nitro-pours a retaining tight tan head that sheets and black color. Aroma is dark malt-roasty. Taste is dark malt-chocolate/roasty, some hops balance.

Enjoyed on nitro-tap at the brewpub. Aroma of roast and licorice. Black with a thick creamy head. The taste is nitro malt, rast, and lots of burnt charred roast. Thick lacing. Creamy mouthfeel, there is sourness well offset by the malting. It’s drinkable.

Pours very black, with a great off-white nitrogenated head. Aroma of coffee, malt, and chocolate. Tastes very malty, with a slightly dry, crisp finish. This one beats Guinness in my mind.

On tap at Otto’s on our way to RBSG. Pours a ruby and garnet hued brown to black with a medium sized beige and tan head. Smoke and toast, roast and light coffee. Thin to medium bodied, smooth with some light chocolate and roast. Soft cocoa, with a soft gentle bitter and cocoa finish.

Deep dark black pour topped by a creamy nitro head. The nose has a nice soft oat/chocolate character. Bitter cocoa, assertively roasted malt and a soft creamy palate. Light bodied but there is a nice malt complexity behind the roast. A little bit of caramel mid-palate. Soft cocoa and a bit of light toasted malt. Roasty and smooth.

UPDATED: APR 1, 2009 Draught at the brewery. Has a proper dry stout appearance, with a deep black body and a really nice looking creamy tan colored head. Creamy soft texture, up front, then some dry malts are more prominent, then the light toasted bitter hops show up. Finish has some nice dark chocolate flavors, with a resemblance to ice cream even, like cookies and cream ice cream, actually. Overall this is a very nice dry stout, one of the best examples of the style I’ve had in years. Creamy and rich all around, and full of flavor... delicious.

Sample at the brewpub. Black pour with a big tan nitro head. Roasty aroma with some metal. Roasty and chocolatey flavor that is a bit watery. Expected better.
