Tap->chalice: Pours a brown head atop a clear, brown body that exhibits some good lacing. Aroma of molasses with a thin palate, following with a bitter aftertaste. Not terribly memorable. kramer (6682) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 27, 2009
Draft pint, at the brewery. Pours a clear reddish brown with a small covering of beige head. Nice malty nose with a little coffee, light roast, and a bit of husky malt. The flavor is a bit too dry and grainy, kinda husky with a thinning finish. Lingering nutty and toasty malt with a touch of hops. Mouthfeel is light bodied with a bit too much fizzy carbonation. On tap at Otto’s. Good malty aroma with brown sugar sweetness, roasted malt or roasted barley grainy character. Light hop notes with carbonic gaseousness. Clean nose and inviting. Deep copper-amber clear with thin off-white lightly lacing head. Medium bodied with medium to slightly high carbonation and just a bit of fizzy burn. Starts with light sweet malt notes, mild brown sugar and roasted barley dryness. Light acidic tang with some tannic bitter. Hop presence in the finish giving a nutty bitter after with mild sweetness and some tang. FROTHINGSLOSH (7796) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 5, 2009
Sampled on draft at the Brewery this beer poured a dark orange-amber color with a large beige head. The aroma was faintly sweet and fruity. The flavor was bitter, sour, tangy and lightly fruity. The finish was sour and a bit off. Not very Dunkel like and fairly disappointing.
DocLock (10702) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 2, 2009
Draft. Pours deep brown with 1-finger off-khaki head. Nose is brown sugar, Munich malt, nuts, earthy notes. Tastes rich, malty, like liquid Wheaties, with some brown sugary (but not sweet), nuts, and earthy malt notes in great balance. On tap at the brewpub. Aroma gave a light shadow of lightly roasted malt, a bit of earth and some hickory heartwood. Plain. Pours a rich dark mahogany brown edged in sienna and with a frothy cream head above. Flavor is a bit quiet and plain. There’s some generic brown sugar, a slight edge of moldy malt and a long run of blandness. A nip thin and vaguely metallic. This is a hard beer for me to get excited about. There’s not much to write home about here. A plain, brown beer, with little defining character. I really want some deeper toasted malt character, a snap of crisp lager yeast, or a light bite of alcohol. Otherwise, clean and pleasantly drinkable.
