Ernest (7889) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JAN 19, 2017
Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is dark yellow to light amber. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (grain), trace hops (herbs), lightly to moderately yeasty (basement), with notes of alcohol (acetone), concrete. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium to full body, creamy/velvety texture, lively carbonation, moderately to heavily alcoholic. According to the label, this is now brewed/bottled in Beersel, so I wonder if Huyghe is involved anymore. I have to admit, it smells pretty industrial and rough, so it still seems like Huyghe mediocrity to me. Or maybe Oud Beersel just isn’t skilled with this style yet? Not terrible, but not recommended.

Bottle from Kisjes Slijterijen, Meppel. Aroma is malt, ripe fruits, ripe apricot, sugary notes, mildly spicy yeast, perfumed notes, alcohol. Flavour is sweet and sugary with a little bitterness in the slightly boozy finish. Body is medium. Sugary and boozy, very disappointing coming from Oud Beersel.

opalescent darker golden to orange colour, huge, dense, slightly yellowish off-white head; aroma of floral honey, apricot, marmalade notes, hints of earth and grains; taste is similar to the aroma with candy sugar; good tripel; nothing extraordinary, but quite enjoyable

33cl bottle at an art opening, pours a murky peachy gold with some fluffy, white head. Nose is big on apricot and stone fruit, some honey and perfume too. Flavor has apricot and candy, canned fruit, perfume. Full bodied, sticky finish.

From the bottle. Pours golden, with abundant white head. Aroma has some caramel, spicy feeling and honey when warmer. Body is medium. Taste is alcoholic, sweet, but balanced by a nice bitterness. The spiciness is evident, so that it seems like a high alcohol saison. Finish is short enough.

Blonde légèrement dorée, limpide, haute mousse blanche tenace. Les flaveurs d’ethers (principalement banane) dominent. En bouche, on retrouve la saveur de banane, le malt est également présent. Pas d’amertume, bière très douce, l’alcool échauffe bien les oreilles ! Une triple très correcte...

F: white, normal, good retention. C: deep gold, light hazy. A: malt, orange peels, spicy, hint of citrus, yeast. T: malt, orange peels, spicy, floral, candy, honey, medium full body, good carbonation, only average Abbey Tripel nothing more here, 0,33l bottle from Delhaize @ Schaerbeek in Brussels. Thanks Cuso, Gurthnar and MisoW for sharing the bottle.
