COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“Green Walnut” is a surprising and innovative Lambic beer of Oud Beersel. For the production of the Green Walnut real fruit is used, in the same way as for the Oude Kriek of Oud Beersel. In July the still green walnuts are gathered in the Oud Beersel orchard and are added to the Lambic beer that matured in wooden wine barrels. After the bottle fermentation this sparkling walnut Lambic of Oud Beersel is called Green Walnut, which is a strong companion for blue-veined cheese, dried ham and salads with nuts. The green walnuts macerate in the Lambic beer enabling them to unfold their taste and flavour. The initial bitterness which is extracted from the walnuts is tempered during the ripening of the walnut Lambic. This results in a delicate balance between the light sourness of the Lambic beer and the bitterness of the green walnuts. The wooden wine barrels provide a subtle touch of red fruits to the beer.

750mL 2016 bottle drunk 9/20/17.
A bit dreggy, unfortunately, as I got the tale-end of the bottle. Showing a yellow, copper-mauve body with no head.
Lemon-vanilla in the nose doesn't really divulge walnut and Brett seems to be the prominent factor here, adding more citrus, light leather and very mild band aid. Smells very much like their Oude Gueuze; soft and citrusy with honey and vanilla behind it. No flaw or alcohol noted.
Great maltiness in the flavor; I must say, it's been A LONG time since I've bothered to have an Oude Beersel; I should really get on that. Citrusy notes are well-homogenized with malt and the lactic acid provides a brace of sourness but no more, fading to nuttiness, lime and lightly juicy Brett. Really impressed by the maltiness, attenuation and strong Brett expression here with tight carbonation putting the finishing touches on the picture as a whole. Surprised and very impressed here.

Aroma is light acid herbals with a touch of tart funky citrus zest. Light green apple touch as well. Taste is dry and citric with damp wood and funky herbs. Quite spritzy and lively. I had troubles finding the walnuts at first, maybe the herbal touch was from them? But if you do the ol´exhale through your nose after a sip, there's quite a lot of walnuts coming through, so there's no doubt there. Interesting and different lambic who grew on me as the bottle was emptied.

0.75 l bottle from Alko Arkadia, Helsinki. Appearance is yellow, cloudy and a decent head. Aroma has fruits. Taste has wood, fruits, more dry wood, smoky wood... or, wait, no, that's walnuts. Great idea, you don't have to buy any nuts with this. Interesting, not just the usual taste of dry wood.

Bottle. Pours clear golden with a small, staying creamy white film head. High carbonation. Aroma has funk, lactic, soft tartness, a bit of nuttiness. High carbonation, fine dry and quite creamy mouthfeel. Flavour has a bit of metal, tart apple, a slight touch of apple vinegar. A bit rough.

Pours murky amber and walnut with low white head. Aroma of grass, green grapes, hay and maybe hints of walnut. Taste is mellow tart, grass and grapes, a boatload of walnut in the finish. Light and smooth body with average carbonation.

Lätt disig ljust gyllengul öl med ett lätt vitt skum. Doft och smak är syrlig med funkiga stalltoner. Fruktiga toner en viss bitterhet som går åt valnötshållet.
