375 ml bottle @ The Merchant St. John’s, NL. Pours a hazy gold with a small white head. Aromas are lemon and some nice Brett funk. Tastes are a nice dry/sour mix with a citrus base. Solid carbonation that bites the tongue and a pleasant medium acidic finish. Great beer.

37,5cl bb02/2037 from source, capped prematurely in double honour of Henri Vandervelden 1926-11feb2018. - Meaty hazy lemonyellow pour with inviting fata morgana of an eggwhite frothcap. Aroma linea recta into my lambiek comfort zone: old musty lemon and grapefruit peels, mature earthy funk, young cheese, old hop zing, sweet gooseberry jam and that certain tonic-quality tingle. Goes for flavour as well, delivered more demure to the palate by soft carbonation, less young&aggressive than the regular Oude Geuze - in fact for a geuze-style coupage this is very straight-up lambiek-like, maybe a doesjel? Quite some of that leathery, meaty, rural homemade gooseberry-jam-on-cheese-iness in flavour going on as well, sidling up to my old favourite Girardin Lambiek. - - Not getting much of that wine barrel, the vinous oak and berry character maybe overplayed by still vibrant citrus funk. Maximum drink&sessionability save for the market-updated ransom... czar (9795) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 10, 2018
UPDATED: FEB 10, 2018 pours almost clear light but bright golden orange with a thin bubbly off-white cap offering minimal retention and lacing. tart apricots, orchard wine, lots of wooden notes although not really tannic, more like a chalky astringency, light to medium acidity - lots of lemon character, rather straightforward on this point, OB funk alright, salty herbs, minerals. moderate carbonation - dulls quickly; light body, dry, woody and tart herbal-lemony finish. interesting foeder action with 1 and 3 y.o. lambic, as young lambic is shy and does not quite impart balance. kewl but i still prefer regular OG.
