Geuze is a classic among the Belgian Ales, following spontaneous fermentation in wooden barrels (no yeast or sugar added), young and old Lambic are blended; which results in a dry, tart and fruity wine like taste. Oud Beersel Geuze Ale is the white sparkling wine of the ale world.

0.375 l bottle from Bierwinkel Hop, bottled in November 2013. Clear, golden amber with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, white head. Sourish, quite funky ,moderately fruity and a bit dusty aroma of lots of lemon, rhubarb, barnyard, oak and some sweat. Over medium sour, rather funky and also quite fruity taste of lots of lemon, gooseberry, rhubarb, massive oak, barnyard and some dust, followed by a medium long, rather tart, very woody-dry finish. Thin to medium body, astringent, fizzy and very effervescent mouthfeel, lively carbonation. I wouldnt call it mellow, but its not aggressively sour either. Quite well-balanced with nice fruity and funky flavours and a champagne-like mouthfeel. Good Geuze!

0.375l bottle. Hazy orange body with an enormous white head. Aroma of lemon zest, pepper, vinegar, earth and apples. Taste of bread, lemon zest, vinegar, grapes and a hint of oak. Light bodied with high carbonation. Very balanced geuze, not the one that kicks you in the face with the barnyard character. Very nice.
