A hazed golden gueuze with a thin off white head. In aroma, superb sour cherries, epsom, horseblanket, classic. In mouth, a corse intense sour gueuze, cork, leather, lemon, very nice. Tasted at GRMs tasting.

Corked bottle. Pours a brilliantly clear pale gold with a thin white head and a steady stream of fine bubbles. Aroma is mild barnyard funk, light citrus, a mellow maltiness, a woodsy bitterness. Flavor is moderately sour and barnyard funky, lemon, lemongrass, mild woodiness, restrained fruitiness, low sweetness. Finishes dry. Incredibly refreshing. Light mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Could easily chug it; have to remind myself to sip it slowly to get all the complexity. One of my favorite gueuzes/sours.

Reviewed 12/31/2012. Thanks to Momar42 for all three gueuzes (and the kriek surprise afterwards!) This was part of the gueuze showdown, pitting Tilquin’s gueuze against the juggernaut duo known as Cantillon Gueuze and Drie Fonteinen Oude Geuze. Part of a 750mL bottle poured into a Cantillon tulip. Notes from last night’s Skins/Cowboys game. A: Pours a cloudy dark amber color. The head is a one finger white shade, with the best texture and retention of the three. S: Tons of tartness, a lesser white wine-esque fruitiness, and some buried earthy funk. The most seemingly sour of the three. T: First thing that comes through initially is the combination of pear/apple esters and white wine tartness. The tart sourness breaks through more aggressively through the midtaste, while the finish is mild brett funk. Out of the three, this was the most sour, the least earthy - and the least subtle. Certainly a nice beer, however. M: Super dry and puckering. Lots of carbonation, too. It lacks the delicate touch of the Cantiloon/3F gueuzes, though it’s softer than, say, a run of the mill Flemish red. O: It’s a nice sour ale. I wouldn’t call it beginner friendly at all, though, due to the tartness. I would point fans of Flanders sours to this one, however. Shame it had compete against the two titans of the style - even though it came in third in the gueuze showdown, I reckon it would be superior to any other gueuze on the market (not from Cantiloon or 3F, that is).

A fizzy yellow gueuze with a disappearing head. Nice aroma of barnyard and cheesy lactic sourness. Notes of green apple and lemon with a dry and sour lactic finish. Well balanced flavors. Elegant beer.

Poured from bottle an orange hue with a little white head. Smells of barnyard and funk. Tastes of barnyard, acidic, citrus, and tart fruit/green apple. Light and tingly on the palate. Love it.

Big crisp aroma from the glass of funky sour fruit. The flavor is also funky sour fruit. Very dry and refreshing. Got to move to Belgium soon.

Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a two finger head. Aroma of lemon, green apples, gooseberries, and funk. Flavour is sour and dry with a touch of lemon, unripe fruits, gooseberries and the usual funk. Light to mediumbodied with lively, refreshing carbonation. A lovely Gueuze!

2010 / 2011 Bottle; Pour is murky gold with a medium fairly fine bubbled white head in this glass. It retains excellently - 30 minutes later theres a decent layer. The nose is barn hay, lemon grass, zest, wheat malts, and peppery spice. The flavor profile shines for me with more lemon zest, grass, florals, barn funk, pepper, light bitter, lemon juice near the finish - this is an extremely quenching brew for me. I’m loving the mouthfeel, finish, and general quality here for sure.

Bottle. Aroma is barnyard funk, pear, tart fruit. Appearance is light copper with a thin white head. Taste is funk, tart fruit, oak, grassy hops, and citrus fruit. Medium body, good carbonation, dry finish. Great beer.

Bottle at Le Poechenellekelder (Brussels, Belgium)
Aroma: Hay, basement aromas, citrus, and some spicy aromas.
Appearance: Golden color with a small white head.
Taste: Very sour, with a slightly spicy aftertaste.
Palate: Light bodied, with an average carbonation.
I think I may have had this one before, but I don’t remember it being this good. It’s widely available, cheap, and quite drinkable, so it’s pretty easy for me to say that this is one of my favorite beers in the style.
