The Quetsche Tilquin à l’ancienne (6.4% alc / vol) is a spontaneous fermentation beer obtained from the fermentation of destoned fresh purple plums (variety Prune de Namur or Quetsche véritable d’Alsace, close to the Damson) in a blend of 1 and 2 years old lambics for a period of 4 months. Unfiltered and unpasteurized, it is re-fermented in the bottle for a minimum period of 3 months. The lambics used were fermented and matured in our own oak barrels at the blendery. They are made from worts brewed by Boon, Lindemans, Girardin and Cantillon. The taste is slightly tart but also fruity and round which makes this Quetsche à l’ancienne may be more accessible for non-experts or less sophisticated palates. It also has a slight dryness from the skin of the plums. The nose perceives a plum brandy perfume.

First batch (2012) with a BB date of 23/02/2022 is made with ’Prune de Namur’ and limited to 500 bottles.

Second batch (2013) limited to 5000 * 75cl and 10000 * 37,5cl.

Small, but relatively stable yellowish-beige head over fully cloudy orange-ochre beer. Farmyard odour, hard leatherfat, citrus (lemon especially); only very faintly fruity, all the more gueuze-y. Sharp lemony flavour; flowery, fruitzeste, again - if restrained - leatherfataroma as a flavour. Finish is rather abrupt, just the lemony sourness tangentially fleeting. Sharpish, very tart, dry-out effect to quite some extent. Maybe medium bodied still. Phenomenally refreshing. Just as experienced with other (non-lambic) quetche beers, there’s not a very distinct, recognisable fruitflavour. What remains is a superb lambicbeer... bettering all the time @ Tilquin.

Finale delicatamente astringente.

375 ml corked and caged bottle, label says 2014 2015 on it, best before 03/02/2025. Served in a Prairie Artisan Ales lambic glass (tumbler style), the beer pours a slightly hazy amber color with almost an inch off-white head. Head retention is good, and there’s not much lacing at all. The brew smells like plums, funk, earthiness, and vinegar. I could really smell the plum fruitiness as soon as I opened the bottle. Taste is similar to the aroma wtih plum, funk, vinegar, lemon, floralness, white grape and grainy flavors. Mouthfeel/body is light/medium, it’s easy to drink with a low/moderate amount of carbonation. I thought this was a pretty good fruited lambic, this is definitely worth buying if you come across a bottle. $15.99 a bottle.

Tasting with Alex and George. Pours a hazy golden prune-ish with a white head. Aroma is earthy, slightly fruity, funky. Taste is the same with some ascorbic notes as well as in Gueuze. Good one.

Bottle. Pours a red-orange, almost pinkish color with a small white head. Wonderfull sweet and fruity aroma with notes of syrup, berry seeds, plum and roses. Taste is tart and fruity and ends with a fruity bitterness (like a grapefruit) and a certain dryness. Low carbonation, soft mouthfeel.
