4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Originally reviewed: 9/14/09. This beer came out a very thick, jet black with a thin tan head on top. This stuck around for a bit and left in it’s wake some nice sticky lace rings on the glass. Smells very roasty and full of chocolate. The mouth was creamy and smooth and just coated the mouth like velvet. The flavor is very chocolate-forward. Big dark roasty presence that finishes bittersweet and filling. This is a very well-done stout, and at the low ABV level, this is plenty drinkable. Recommend.
Draft. Small beige head atop cola-dark brown body. Aroma is moderately sweet, bittersweet chocolate, some roast, light molasses. Taste is moderately sweet, bittersweet chocolate, molasses, some roast, caramel. Medium body, some stickiness. decaturstevo (6343) - decatur, Tennessee, USA - JAN 20, 2010
An almost black pour with tan head and lace. Coffee and roasted malt on the nose. Medium bodied with good carbonation. A nice beer. zizzybalubba (1891) - Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - NOV 27, 2009
On tap. Perfect black pour with a creamy tan head. Rich chocolatey aroma with a bit of smoke. Creamy dark chocolate flavor again with smoked malt and some espresso. Don’t let the ABV fool you, this is very much a full-bodied beer. One of these was enough but it was delicious. I was quite surprised by this one but I think it is fantastic. Appearance: Pitch black with a dark tan head. Good lacing left behind.
Aroma: Coffee, chocolate, and deep roasted malt notes. Quite nice.
Flavor: Bitter chocolate and coffee. Tastes as if it is somewhere between a sweet and dry stout. Very roasty with some burnt and mineral notes. Not bad!
Palate: Medium-low carbonation with a medium-rich mouthfeel and a long, bitter finish.
Overall: A fairly complex and well constructed stout. One of the best beers I had there.

dark brown almost black pour with a small tan head. aroma and taste of chocolate and coffee. hogan873 (451) - Joliet, Illinois, USA - SEP 25, 2009
Pours pitch black with a thin chocolate colored head. Nice, decorative lacing results from the head. Chocolate, chocolate, and more chocolate on the aroma. Overall a pretty sweet scent with bakers chocolate and dark chocolate standing out. Smooth, creamy, and easy to drink. Up front the sweet chocolate and malt make their presence known. The brew finishes with a nice bakers chocolate and coffee bite. A very nice stout. jsquire (4677) - St. Marys, Ohio, USA - SEP 7, 2009
On tap at the pub, Very dark beer with a thin brown head. Dusty chocolate nose with some dark, roasted grain notes. Lots of chocolates in the flavor, including bitter chocolate, milk chocolate, chocolate pudding chocolate and Easter bunny chocolate. All this over burnt grains with a dry, almost campfire finish. Very enjoyable as a dessert beer.
