UPDATED: MAR 14, 2013 On draft at Tadgs. I let this warm up for about an hour as is was way too cold; this did help the aroma. Aroma: plum/prune, pear, coffee and dark chocolate. Flavor: Like the nose (plum and pear) plus very smooth coffee and dark chocolate. Comment: Nicely done as this shows neither any heat nor is it overly sweet. Though pretty straight forward, I’d wager that this will gain complexity and even greater smoothness with age. I can’t wait until this is available in bottles.

Aroma: pear coffee, slight sour note, dark chocolate comes forth as it warms.
Palate: Very smooth; no alcohol burn.
Flavor: Pear, coffee, slight sour flavor, licorice rich medium dark chocolate syrup. Server’s comment: nutmeg, dried fruit. Sourness from 8 mos. in barrel and used wine yeast.
Keg at Popeye, Tokyo (15%). Clear mahogany colour, minimal head. Deep caramel and port dominates the nose. Sweet with full body and rounded mouthfeel. Hmmm, I am not sure if this is the one I tried at Tadg’s last night as it was listed as the Meltin Barleywine but since KyotoLefty left his review here I will do the same. For 14% ABV it was exceptionally drinkable and I decided to have 2-not a good idea as this packs a punch! A very dark brown color with a complex taste. Malty & warming. Draught at TAdg’s. Jammy nose, licorice, ume, raisins, great fruits. Dark brown with crimson tints, flat. Flavors of chocolate, caramel, plum, raisins, great tanginess. Still needs time imo, though very interesting and great fruit.
