Cask, gravity, Merton Winter Beer Festival Feb 2013 w/e of Friday 15th, Saturday 16th February 2013 Pours black with a tan head, in fact this looked quite superb in the glass. Tastes was pure indulgence, roasty and with a gentle seam of bitterness, but complimented well by a big dollop of chocolate or more particularly milk chocolate and then a little powdery good quality cocoa, a little dry towards the end, this is one excellent stout and my beer of the festival. Gravity dispense at Merton Winter BF ’13.
Dark black with a big frothy tan head.
Nose carries rich roast malts, chocolate, toffee, background hops.
Taste follows, roasty malt, chocolate leading the way, some hop presence.
Medium bodied with moderate carbonation lending towards a dryish finish.

Cask conditioned at Merton Winter Beer Fest ’13. Black with tan head. Big, burnt charcoal flavours, really bitter and dry, lots of depth, heavy on the palate. Cask at Pig’s Ear Beer Festival, London. Black. Licorice aroma. Mid sweet with medium body and rounded mouthfeel. Lemony chewy licorice, some fudge. Salty finish. Compact and concentrated.

Cask at Pigs Ear 2011, London. Pours dark brown with a fine, beige head. Moderate roast and rich chocolate aroma. Delicious flavor, rich and creamy chocolate, medium roast, some dry earth. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Semi-dry finish, light mocha, chocolate chips, short bitter cocoa. Quite excellent. [cask at Cloisters, Edinburgh] Black stout, with a decent cream-coloured head from the sparkler. Roasted, malty nose with a slightly nutty element. Very dry on the palate, lovely toasted malt flavours, some ashy tobacco on the dry finish. Had three pints of this, I was so impressed. On cask at Cloisters. A black beer with a thick tan head. Aroma of roasty malt, chocolate and caramel. Nicely bitter with similar flavours and a long bitter, roasted malt linger. Mild carbonation and an oily mouth-feel. Very nice. greenmanalishi (547) - Leicestershire, ENGLAND - JUL 10, 2011
Very good stuff. Tobacco-ish, dry-roasted, dry, bit of nut, coffee, little oily in texture (would have preferred something thicker/creamier so this was a slight down mark) but a very good, and robust all-round stout. chriso (7533) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 7, 2011
On cask (handpump) at Great British Beer Festival, day 3 on 6 August 2009. Very dark brown. Slightly oily consistency. Very dry. Lots of chocolate. Perhaps not quite outstanding but very good indeed.
