Mildly hazy, dark amber-mahogany body is topped by a light beige head that is small and fades to a ring (looks exactly like the beer pictured).
Dried fruits (cranberry, raisin, cherry and such) in the nose give some poignancy and also a little vintage feel to it, with vanilla, earth, black pepper and very light toffee. It’s certainly not sweet or heavily malty and does lean on the yeast esters, which is appreciated. Alcohol mixes with the esters to build intensity but the finish just sort of lingers. Mildly fruity, with definite earthiness and musty, damp cellar.
This is a bizarre beer. No way around it. Doesn’t have the maltiness that many Christmas saisons have and yet it’s not thin or light. The "wet stone and leather" suggestions from the commercial deScription may sound a bit ridiculous (moreso the wet stone) but it’s definitely got something like that going on. It’s like a wet rock with some moist earth on it also dipped in black pepper. The fruitiness quite boisterously keeps this thing from being just one big musty mess, but it’s still quite challenging. Medium-low carbonation wtih some slickness and some breadiness to the texture. Strong, but yet not sweet or alcoholic. Definitely interesting and unique and one I don’t feel I’ve wrapped my palate around despite having a full glass.
Pours a dark ruby red/chestnut brown color with mahogany edges and a one finger, off-white head that quickly settles into a thin, lasting ring. Spotty lacing left behind.
Slightly spicy aroma with subtle farmhouse funk and dark fruit notes. Slightly medicinal with some zesty pepper and cinnamon spice followed by sweet caramel malt, bread, toffee, raisin and cherry juice.
On the lighter end of medium body with a crisp, zesty spice presence countered by sweet vinous fruits and subtle farmhouse yeast. Peppery with some cinnamon and nutmeg followed by subtle earthy funk and a sweet, vinous dark fruit presence. Lots of sweet cherry along with subtle grape, currant and other dark berries. Really nice balance and the high ABV is well masked making it very easy to drink. At Eurhop festival in Rome-ITALY. Pours amber and vivid, cloudy with a minimal tan foam. Nose: sour notes (?), farmhouse feel. Mouth has pungent tartness and bit of Amber malts but watery although refreshing.
