16.9 oz bottle served in a large Harviestoun flute (in 2012). Despite a vigorous pour not enough head was raised to completely coat the top. It died quickly, leaving behind just the attractive red-orange-brown liquid.
Smell: a load of sweet toffee and caramel with an underlying aroma of baked bread. [3.5]
Plenty of flavor, and not nearly as sweet as the aroma suggests. In fact, there’s a mild bitterness in the finish and aftertaste. Nonetheless, as the aroma indicates, there is a good bit of toffee and caramel in the flavor, with hints of white pepper, raisins and dates.
Very smooth; medium+ body; light but adequate carbonation.
O: interesting variant on an ESB. Would buy again. dogbomb (1239) - ENGLAND - JAN 19, 2013
Bottle. Dark orange/amber ale with an off-white head. Nose is dark fruits, raisins, and cake mix. Taste is caramel, cake and a strong bitterness of grapefruit/grapes. Really nice bitter with some lovely heavy malts. shrubber85 (11508) - Greenville, Indiana, USA - DEC 21, 2012
Bottle. Syrupy malt aroma. Amber with small head. Sweet toffee malt and mild herbal hops flavor. Nice body. This bottle was a bit past its prime but still not bad. Koskela (505) - Marysville, California, USA - DEC 5, 2012
A citrusy kinda tarty aromawith hints of sweet and bitterness. Its a hazy amber ale with a small offwhite head. A sweet bitter taste reminds me of a brew ive had before. Its a dry taste and the bitterness lingers. Not much for this taste but i have to say it is a bitter brew. Its not a hoppy bitter really. I get no hop aromas. Its a light/medium body that is surprizingly crisp. Overall not a bad brew for a bitter but not a beer for me

Bottle. Hazy dark amber in colour, residue head. Aroma is very bready malt. The taste has a lot of dark ripe fruits, malts and caramel. A little too carbonated for my taste. This is a strong tasting beer. OK for a change.

Bottle. Cloudy, orange amber, low head. Spicy aroma. Really nice fruity base with a good earthy, citric and grassy hop. Mellow chewy body. Great moreish beer. Patrickctenchi (6668) - Cox’s Knob, columbus, Indiana, USA - OCT 23, 2012
Pours cloudy brown with slightly orange-red tint....minimal, soapy,off-white head.
Almost no scent....just a little malt and wood.
Taste is woody, caramel...
Slightly nutty and fruity....
Mild, but a nice tasting beer overall. Cybercat (5964) - Georgia, USA - SEP 17, 2012
Aroma has a malty core and firm notes of caramel and horehound. Pours a clear, dark copper with a fairly thick pale copper-tan head. Firm flavor has malty, caramel and horehound tones with just a whisper of honey. Smooth texture has average body and fizz, but leaves a satisfying finish. Overall, decent if not outstanding. queenholly (3623) - South Whitley, Indiana, USA - SEP 11, 2012
Bottle. Nutty malt, oaky vinous, raisin aroma. Reminded me a bit of sherry. Brown with a ring of small bubbles. Malty, oaky vinous flavor just like the aroma, and a very mild bitterness in the finish. Smooth medium body, flat carbonation. Very nice beer. Quack-Duck (9487) - Down South, GERMANY - AUG 8, 2012
Bottle from Greendale Farm. Hazy Brown, large beige head. Good malty Base with raisins, walnut, caramel and roasted malts. Very nice resiny-citrusy hops. Delicious!
