PotjeBier (3633) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - NOV 3, 2013
Backlog. On tap @ Popeye, June 2008. Copper to brown color. Aroma’s: sweet malts, sweet fruits. Flavor is mainly sweet, with a hint of bitterness. Medium bodied. Finishes moderate bitter. More Belgian style strong ale than a UK or US Barley Wine, but OK enough.

My Bottom Line:
Oxidized caramel malts and minty hop vapors coalesce in this soft and rich Barley Wine.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam circles the dark amber.
-Oxidation works very well with this type of grain bill, making the nose a tad more alluring. However, at the 4-year mark, you can smell that this is not going to get better.
-Carbonation is appropriately moderate and residual sugars levels are high but approachable.
-This must have been near excellent a couple of years ago.

4-year-old bottle. Thx Mark !

maekchu (4024) - Hirakata, JAPAN - FEB 26, 2013
Draught at Qbrick during Strong Beer Week (from tasting notes). Floral, pure, fresh Cascade hops, orange peel, raisiny malt aromas. Clear ruby and peach color. Raisiny malt, orange, malty sweetness, good balance, pleasant and smooth. Slight sticky sweetness, overall good but lacks character. Very filling, some sweet spice lingers, nice aftertaste. Pretty complex maltiness and good hopping to boot.

0.33 l bottle at PBF. Deep amber color with small head. Sweet caramelly, toffeish and berryish aroma with flowery-citrusy hops. Bittersweet, toffeish, nutty and caramelly flavor with flowery-citrusy hops and notes of raspberry. Thick body with nice smooth mouthfeel. Well made true to style barley wine.
