On tap at Archive, West End. Dark reddish amber with nice lacing on the way down. Excellent mix of hop and malt on both the nose and palate thanks to a quartet of hops and nice backing malt sweetness. A bit of zesty spicy notes in the finish as well. My kind of beer.

Draught at Archive Beer Boutique, Brisbane. Poured a deep mahogany red with 5mm of light tan dense foam that retained well and laced OK. Aroma subtly of malt. Taste strongly of roasted grain, some sweet malts and a tarty bitterness; alcohol well hidden. Medium body. Semi-sweet and smooth with a roasted tart bitterness on the finish. OK.

Bottle from Regional Wines Wellington (August 2014). Dark mahogany red/brown, thin tan head, rich, malty, boozy aroma, sweet fruits, orange peel, caramel, dank piney bitterness, full body, smooth texture, long sweet then resiney finish. Excellent, like a super-hoppy scotch ale.

Big full bodied with lots of really rich meaty flavours. However lacked balance and the carbonation wasnt particularly good on the 500ml bottle i tried so it just kinda tasted like a big flat boozey real ale.

An excellent example of the Antipodean take on the style (American Strong Ale). The alluring aroma is totally backed up by the full bodied nicely balanced flavour. Another winner from the good folks at Panhead.

Bottle, 11/4/2014. Dark ruby brown pour, creamy light tan head. Aroma is dark caramel, orange peel, thick resinous pine. Taste is grapefruit, burnt caramel and dark toasted malts, heavy bitter pine finish, lingering for quite some time. Medium body, not sticky despite the heavy hops. Bitterness tends to dominate and detracts a bit for me, but decent.

Thanks for the pour Timbo. Copper red. Aroma is big hops and resin. Some strong hop flowers coming through, mild caramel. Taste is malt and hops big time, sweet up front then resinous bitterness on finish. Great beer.

Caramel aroma. Smooth smooth taste. Nice caramelly biscuit malt taste. Nice warming alcohol mouthfeel. Another great drop from panhead

In a recent session this was the star. It was in some award-winning company as well. It looks ruby red with a good covering of white head with excellent clarity and carbonation. The aroma is everything that is excellent about American hops: spruce, resin, juicy red stonefruit, amber, pecans. All of this in abundance with a massive mouthful of quenching, juicy flavour. It is gratifyingly bitter with a finish that sat on my palate for a good half an hour after I had left the pub. I want to see more of this beer. Much more
