3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Decent Indonesian brew. I enjoyed a bottle on the island of Bintang. It has a roasty aroma. It’s pretty dark and has a nice palate. I’s hardly a world beater but it’s a nice beer to be drinking in a Muslim country. It has a good toasty flavor.
A pleasant change from the many Bintangs I’d been smashing back aside our pool at the hotel we were staying at. This one slotting in to the heat and humidity of the afternoon quite nicely. At just on cool but quickly warming. Loose frothy tan head atop a black as night body. Aroma is rich yet oddly mellowing showing hints of molasses, cocoa, fresh strapped leather and Marmite™. Body is lean and lifted by a good level of carbonation. Smoky, burnt bacon and pale caramel front with molasses and scorched grain and heavily roasted coffee bean finishing it off offering a good level of malt bitterness. Has a Schwarzbier quality to it that made it highly quaffable. Lingers long in the mouth, balanced and tasty. I liked it. A great stout!! 330 ml bottle, from a Bali supermarket. ABV is 5%. Very dark brown colour, nearly black. Large to moderate beige head. Aroma of dark malts, mild coffee, caramel and palm sugar. The flavour is medium dry and only mildly roasty, again notes of mild coffee and dark malts, hints of caramel and palm sugar. Slightly acidic and thin finish. I cannot say that I am able to identify the ginseng. Borresteijn (7491) - Zaandam, NETHERLANDS - OCT 24, 2009
33cl Bottle, enjoyed at Lava View Lodge, Bromo, Indonesia. Deep red to black colour, beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, sour cream, but all very faint. Flavour is bitter chocolate, roasted malts, light sour cream, light sweet to sweet, dry finish. No ginseng noticed. Light to medium bodied.
