In the 18th century, this bold, strong stout was brewed in London for the long and treacherous trip to the Imperial courts of Russia. In keeping with this stoic tradition, this whiskey-barrel aged imperial stout is warm, full bodied and fit for a Czar. Ingredients: Roasted Barley, Pale, Chocolate, Munich & Crystal Malts, Magnum & Fuggles Hops, Yeast.

Black pour with some dark brown head. Bourbon and dark chocolate make up the aroma and most of the taste. Touch of vanilla as well. Very nice

A nice stout. Pours a thick black with mocha head. Aromas are mostly bourbon. Vanilla, some chocolate. Very easy to drink. Bourbon notes, oak, roast, dark chocolate. Kind of one note but a really good note.

Dark black body, brown bubbly head, some nice lacing. Aroma of banana, yeast, dried fruit, bourbon?. Taste is rich sweet, again quite a lot of banana notes in this, booze. The palate is not as full as I would have expected. Over all quite a nice IRS.

Bottle. Black with a creamy light mocha head. Chocolate, vanilla, light booze, drip coffee, coconut husk, moderate carbonation and although full body seems thin on the palate, or at least not very viscous, sweet on finish with some rye, whiskey, chocolate and vanilla.

A Russian imperial stout demon converted to angelicness. The Paradisio to the usual Inferno of the genre...... Where there had been burn there is salve; where there had been ash there is smiling vanilla; where there had been unforgiving leather lashings there are calming strokes of summer cherry. Milkiness without conditions. Sweet tarred raisins. And yet a burning gnaws underneath, a restricted destruction corralled by the consequences of changing allegiances back to the infernal. Emptied, the glass smells of soy sauce..... All things good of infancy and childhood: your first suckling; your first piece of birthday cake; your first Hallowe’en treat; your first awareness of being loved. The barrel’s alcohol is the constant sequencing these primary memories of oily, toasty, sugary goodness...... And still, the barrel juices make me melancholic while my mouth burns succulent....

Bottle via the Vancouver crew. Clear-edged brown. Brown head. Molasses sweet, vanilla-tweaked. Could use age, mild chocolate and mocha. Better body than I first thought. Touch of soy. Alright.

650 ml bottle poured. Waxed. Pour a dark reddish black with a small bubble head. Rough aroma of overly sweet malt. Flavor is much smoother with chocolate, dark fruit. And a big sweet finish. Interesting beer.

Thanks to Matt for this brew!
