We put the kettle on for a long boil and this Scottish wee heavy is what we got. Rich Caramel is complemented by sea salt for a complex intense flavour. Another? Aye

650ml brown bottle. Golden brown colour, some haze. Fat white head, good creamy bead and great lacing in the glass. Caramel nose. Taste has caramel sweetness, thick toffee, light peanut, slight salty note. Some grain in the finish, lighter caramel notes. Medium body, fine carbonation. No signs of any alcohol in this brew. Doesn’t hit the mark for me, the sweetness/richness of the caramel toffee thing gets tiring and doesn’t make it easy to drink.

Pours clear sepia with a thick and fairly persistent buff head. Aroma offers caramel, toasted malt, and a hint of sea breeze. Flavor features sweet, syrupy caramel and toasted malt, with a touch of salt. Mouthfeel delivers good body if not much fizz. Get salty!

Can from A.J.’s Beer Warehouse. Aroma of caramel and bread malts. Bit of salt.

650ml bottle. Sweet caramel aroma. Dark brown and opaque in colour with a mid-sized off-white head. Some lacing. Sweet caramel flavour with some salty and bitter notes. Medium body with a slick texture. Mostly sweet finish.

Tap. Pours light brown, not very carbonated. Full on caramel nose, sweet withs some dried figs. Taste is caramelly, candy-sweet, burnt sugar but alcohol is covered well. Salty feel comes out as well. Not my favourite style but drinks well.

Good resemblance of a Scottish ale. Caramel adds some sweetness to an already sweet medium caramel malt base. Nice contrast with the salt to balance out a bit. Semi-creamy texture. Was good to try, but I’d go other directions for this style.

Once again I was not disappointed by Parallel 49 Brewery. This salty scot is my new go to beer. Relatively dark, with heavy caramel malts and roasted flavours. Sweet, but not overbearing. A great beer.

Poobah (468) - New Orleans, Louisiana, USA - APR 2, 2017
Reddish-amber with a thick head, some lacing, and a whisky, fruity nose. Malty and creamy mouthfeel with caramel noticeable early, and finishing with caramel, whisky, and salt.

Another solid ale from the Brewers in BC. I liked the taste and the kick it had. Wasn’t overpowering withthe hops.

Can from Beach Liquor Fort Walton. Pours a nice caramel brown color with a thin khaki head. The aroma is pleasant malt with a hint of yeast and wet hops. Flavor starts with dark roasted malt then maybe a touch of sweetness and salinity and it finishes lightly bitter like burnt coffee. Okay.

can @ Calandro’s / Baton Rouge LA --- Aroma of caramel malt. Hazy amber brown, beige head that sticks at a thick cover, hanging lace strands. Taste is malt, medium fizz, light hops, and then a gradual move toward sweet caramel as it moves through a long finish. Slight dip back to bitter at the very end. Maybe a little too sweet, but complex and easy to drink.
