COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Belgian style ale is rich in history as well as flavour. Traditionally brewed by Trappist monks far from the influence of the modern world, this complex ale starts with malty sweetness and finishes medium dry, with a touch of piety.

Aroma is caramel malts/liqueur and a good hint of raisin bread. The flavor is caramel malts/liqueur, fruit/dark fruit and a slightly cloying/alcoholic finish.

Pours an amber-brown into the glass with an immediately diminishing fizzy tan head that leaves sparse lacing. The nose is of heavy bourbon accents. The bourbon immediately transfers into the flavor, alongside heavy malts, Belgian Candi-Sugars, just a hint of yeasty starch fruits, and finishes with a brighter citrus essence and an oaken bourbon barrel woodiness. The citric alcohol semi-dry finish lingers appropriately, not completely overbearing the mouth with sole heaviness. Although not necessarily indicative of the traditional style, it’s certainly not unwelcome. It’s almost spot-on for a Bourbon Barrel-aged Imperial Red Ale. The full body and oily mouthfeel make for a semi-chewy palate, perfect for a nightcap or for sharing a substantial, complex bourbon-aged offering with friends as an aperitif or after-dinner dessert brew.

22oz bottle 9/21/16 (Caputo’s Singles Rack)-46° in tulip-Pours a dark amber with floaties and no head. Aroma of Belgian, caramel, dark fruits, and caramel. Taste of the same with a bit of alcohol, banana, and caramel. This full bodied brew is pretty tasty but also a bit lacking.

Has a soda pop like head that is gone in an instant and copper-brown sugar-alcohol body. Aroma is fruitiness due to a lot of fusel alcohol. Flavour is sweet molasses with a harsh cloying finish. This tastes in every way like those strong European lagers the teenagers get drunk on; any insinuation that it even alludes to a trappist beer are not correct.

"Taste is bourbon rum red ale." definitely says it all. The first hit of aroma is fruit, mostly banana then caramel and malt. There is no mistaking that this is a Belgian style beer. Will definitely be having more of this!

Pours auburn, fair fluffy head. Aroma of bourbon, sweet apricots. Taste is bourbon rum red ale. Bit metallic aftertaste, it’s OK, not great.

Visual: Pours orangish-brown with lots of suspended sediment, barely any head, very thin layer of retention, several varied speed streams. Nose: candy sugar maltiness (lvl-6)-pungency Attack: crisp, micro-tingly, underlying sweet malt Mid-palate: (lvl-7)-sweetness, (MAIN) caramel apple, alcohol bitter-tangy, toffee barley malt, hint of nutmeg Finish: residual toffee malt sweetness - clean. Summary: Much cleaner in flavour and roundness than their whiskey barrel aged edition. Very well-hidden ABV.

Light copper body. Booze whisky tart aroma. This is sour and I’m not sure it should be. Some booze and dried fruit. The whisky really overpowers the ale. A nice effort but I’m not certain it was totally successful

Pours a nice apricot colour. Aromas of barrel, funk, cheese, tart, maybe some sour Apple. Flavours are funk, whisky, some dried fruit, tart finish. Weird for a strong Belgian ale. Doesn’t taste bad...but I’m Not sure this entirely worked.

UPDATED: DEC 12, 2015 25.12.2014 Beer 23 in the CC/P49 Mystery Box Rating #1120 - 06.06.2014 - Wondering what all I traded @foxjunk for these. Clear, amber pour with a foamy tan head, medium retention. Aroma is yeast, malts, mild spiciness. Taste is sweet caramel malts, tempered with a spicy edge that really establishes this beer on the palate. Lots of plum, raisin notes. Much better than reviews suggest.
