Definitely black with a touch of murky orange in the dimple of the glass and a persistent skim of head despite being poured from gas-flow too cold. The aroma at first instance was of over-aged Camembert. A definite ripe, wavy fungal aroma, however upon sitting in the glass it mellowed into a faint chocolate juicy orange. I would emphasise that while the aroma became better, there wasn’t a lot of it. It the mouth it is charry, roasty and then there is only faint allusions to oranges. It isn’t terribly sweet or savoury. It is balanced in this sense but as a go to stout it doesn’t do terribly much for me I’m sorry. Nothing wrong with it though.
Draft at the birthday bash. Cloudy maroon brown color, small tan head. Aroma of lightly spiced and subtle orange peel on a background of cocoa. Taste is fruity cocoa and a bit of coffee. The orange has faded a bit, but is still present. ciaranc (1102) - Dublin, IRELAND - SEP 17, 2012
Rigger from the brewery, pour was under carbonated, so rating based on that. Pours espresso black, no head. Big coffee on the nose, chocolate, orange and some molasses sweetness. Mouthfeel is smooth with a capital ooh, with a decent amount of body. Taste and finish meld into one here, with a lovely orangey sweetness and only a touch of bitterness, though its ever so slightly astringent in its long finish. Huge drinkability here, very nice.
