Pours black with a large fading off-white head. Nose shows soft roast, bready malt, caramel and toasty notes. Flavours include sweet bready malt, soft roasted malt and light cocoa. Quite sweet.

500ml bottle. Roasted malt aroma. Poured black with slight head. Medium bitterness followed by roasted malt finish. OK but not overly complex.

ALLOVATE (3109) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - JUN 12, 2015
As black as the ace of spades in body with an inch of tan atop. Head holds for the length and laces well. There is a sweet and musty, almost earthy and dusty aroma to it hinting at topsoil, cocoa, vanillin, sultanas and raisins with a little peppery spice. On the palate it is bitter and spicy from the get-go. Phenolic, peppery with lashings of cocoa and bitter 85%+ chocolate. Quite creamy and full in body with a smooth richness and lengthy bitter spice finish. The savoury fruits and earthy tones of the aroma fill it out. This is an interesting stout. Not hugely flavoured or aromatic it points more towards the subtle nuances. I like it. Sessionable and pleasing. (33cL, no date stamp, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)

XCaellaX (28) - Bramois, SWITZERLAND - JUN 5, 2015
33cl bottle, tonic bar Dunedin, NZ. Dark brown to black color with an average good lasting off-white head. Aroma: lightly roasted, fruity dark chocolate, sweet licorice. Flavor: light sweet start with a lovely dry midtaste, long warm sweet aromatic finish. Full creamy body with a subtile carbonation. Very nice body with a round aroma! Excellent!

GlassBrass440 (321) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - APR 15, 2015
Pours dark brown with no head. Fruity English yeast, caramel, and coffee. Flavour of dark chocolate, pancake syrup, and fruity yeast. Some alcohol shows as it warms. Very smooth and full bodied.

Niksko (642) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - MAR 13, 2015
Pours a very dark brown with a fluffy light tan head. Nose is coffee, caramel, red fruits. Flavor is burnt toast, coffee, rich chocolate notes, toffee, honey, hazelnut. Lovely silky mouthfeel, this beer coats your palate and lingers on for a long time. Very rounded mid to late palate which is really pretty impressive. I’m not sure what it is, but towards the end of a mouthful there’s a lovely soft, rounded, complex sweetness that’s beautiful. This is really bloody excellent.

Bottle from Regional Wines, Wellington (August 2014). Black, small tan head, coffee, sweet chocolate, vanilla, creamy oats, slightly burnt/ashy aftertaste, light-medium body, smooth creamy texture, low carbonation. Very good.

StevieT (2008) - AUSTRALIA - FEB 11, 2015
From a bottle. Mildly sweet with a smooth finish thanks to the oats, some bitter coffee up front, pretty good stuff.
