COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Paulaner Salvator with its strong, typically malty taste is the original Paulaner. The bottom-fermented Doppelbock-Bier unites the finest hops and dark barley malt. The Paulaner monks served Salvator as a replacement for food at Lent. Their most famous brewer was Brother Barnabas, who was the head of the Paulaner monastery brewery starting from 1773. Its original recipe is today almost the same as it was in Barnabas’ time. In order to protect the original recipe, Paulaner had the trade mark "Salvator" patented in 1896.

On tap at Paulaner Brauhaus. I had this bottled a few weeks ago but was able to get it on tap in Germany --- totally different. This was very creamy and thick (for the style) and the sweetness of it lingered. Alcohol gave it a warmth but never made it too "hot." loved it.

12:16 Bottle from Table and Vine. Room temp. Amber with fizzy head that fizzes off to ring quickly. Caramel fig raisin maple syrup aroma with some booze. Roasted/burnt caramel raisiny maple syrup sweetness with woody herbal bitterness. Slick body and surprisingly fizzy. Not as great as I remember but still tasty. Maybe I should have chilled it but I like room temp beers sometimes.

Sampled from a bottle from Beers of Europe. Dark orange/amber colour with a white head. Aroma of caramel and fruit. The taste is very warming with lots of sweet malts bringing a butterscotch flavour. Lots fruit with notes of raisins, figs, dried banana, orange, port and herbs. There is even a hint of rum or whisky - this beer does not hide its alcohol content! Excellent balance and a really good mouthfeel. A really nice, well-made winter warmer.

The beer looks nice. Its quite light for a Doppelbock. The color is a dark amber/ orangey brown. The beer seems clear, but light reveals a lot of particles floating around. The beer bubbles happily. On top of the beer a nice layer of soft white foam is formed. The bulk of the foam collapses, but a nice drape of foam remains. The smell of the beer is nice. It is a lovely beer for a cold autumn night. The smell is soft and sweet, filled with delicious sweet aroma’s of syrup, caramel, dark red fruits and some raisin. The malts are clearly smellable. I also smell some bitter hop notes. There is a lovely warming touch of the alcohol. The smell is the same like manny German doppelbock beers. It is a lovely rich warming smell. The taste is pretty much the same. It is also familiar. It has a lovely malty sweeties, some roasty bitters and a salty touch. The flavours are all in very good balance. I really like it. It is lovely besides the fire. The palate is good. The beer is filled with tiny bubbles. The tingle the tongue lovely. A good beer it is.

Bottle. Pours a beautiful red with orange tint and a light, quick-dissipating head. Nose is caramel, date, fig paste, milk chocolate, butterscotch, and toasted grain. Starts out with a surprisingly savory flicker, then goes straight into the barreling freight train of sweet, dark fruit, boozy notes, and rum-soaked raisin paradise. If whiskey was made out of dates, it might taste like this. Finish is long and hot; it actually drinks higher than the ABV. Very good, but not as subtle as some.
