COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Paulaner Salvator with its strong, typically malty taste is the original Paulaner. The bottom-fermented Doppelbock-Bier unites the finest hops and dark barley malt. The Paulaner monks served Salvator as a replacement for food at Lent. Their most famous brewer was Brother Barnabas, who was the head of the Paulaner monastery brewery starting from 1773. Its original recipe is today almost the same as it was in Barnabas’ time. In order to protect the original recipe, Paulaner had the trade mark "Salvator" patented in 1896.

Bottle. The pour was a medium copper brown with a yellowish-amber hue and a large (2-3 finger) cream colored frothy head that mostly diminished down to a very small amount of residue with a tiny collar, which produced some poor lacing. The aroma was of a light biscuit malt, and a sweet doughy yeast with notes of caramel, dark fruit (figs and plums), and was a bit nutty. Taste was sweet and very malty with a big note of caramel in the beginning and ended a tad bitter and mildly sweet with a strong note of dark fruit and a mild alcohol tinge. The flavor lasted an average time after the swallow with a nice sweet fruity taste left behind along with a nice mild alcohol warming sensation. Mouthfeel was a bit under medium in body and dry yet a tiny bit syrupy in texture with a moderate carbonation. Overall a very impressive beer with a really good blending of malts, fruit and sweetness which made this a wonderful tasting experience...

0,5l Bottle. Pours amber color with some head. Sweet syrupy flavor with some nuts, malts, dark fruits alcohol. Very sweet. Medium body, sweet mostly balanced by alcohol and some dark fruits and plums. Short aftertaste. Quite nice overall, maybe bit over the top with syrupy sweetness.

BBE 08.17. Tumman simaisen ruskea väri, hutera semituuhea nopea vaahto. Suutuntuma siirappisen makea, alkuun metallinen, snadin alkoholinen, siirappisuus dominoi. Juotavaa kamaa.

Phenomenal Doppelbock! Definitely one of Paulaner’s better batch stomach settlers. If they had commercials in the States, it would definitely drive demand up.

Scura con riflessi sul rosso. Bella schiuma compatta. Olfatto di caramello e frutta matura che non viene tradito in bocca. Dolce, come deve essere; luppoli in secondo piano. Corpo pieno.

Has a strong smell that doesn't do the flavor justice. Rich and malty with a nice finish. This is a pretty good double bock, not nearly as strong as I was expecting ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

his one is ridiculously sweet. After a strong taste aroma experience (that is hard to describe... the sweetness overtakes it all) a long finish with some bitter pepper and smoke notes follow. Also some booze. The whole combination seems very one dimensional and didn’t please me so much.

UPDATED: JUN 7, 2017 ** 2 1/2 year old aged bottle ** Kind of hazy chestnut brown color with weak brown foam. Aromas are really pleasant of light chocolate, roasted malt notes, figs, and raisins, complex and wholesome. Palate, full body, smooth texture, rather flat leaving light boozy finish. Taste, sweet of malt, nut oils, a touch of booze and fruits. Overall, really nice big beer and not too strong which is nice. Strongly recommend.
