Have had this brew several times, most recently at the Federal, Durham (I think). It always gets high recommendations, and I keep getting encouraged to try it again, but my opinion is unchanged. Basically it’s a solid, middle-of-the-road Belgian to me. It’s got a cloudy orange body, with a moderate head and some swirling sediment visible. Nice fruity aroma is promising, but I always find it too one-dimensional and slightly too thin.

Archibaldo de la Cruz (1120) - FINLAND - AUG 10, 2008
Orange colour with a white medium head. Fruity aroma. Sweet and fruity flavour with some yeast, alcohol and malt. It wasn’t bad but I still feel that the glass was the best part.

Belgium. Bottled. Orange with white head. Aroma and flavor of malt with a caramel tone. Yeasty notes of banana and red berries.

330 ml bottle server from the special glass. Burnished orange color, off-white head. Yeasty flavor with some fruity notes, malty finish, medium carbonation. Not quite as good as I remembered it to be.

Nice amber color with sweet fruity malty taste, beautiful foamy head and lasting palate

austone (1062) - Turku; Pori, FINLAND - AUG 1, 2008
Flakey amber, lacing & thick beige head. Sweet syrupy aroma, sweet pear, apple pie. Similar sweet flavor, syrupy fruits & maltiness, some hops and alcohol. Very simple. Medium bodied, smoothly carbonated, a bit syrupy mouthfeel. It’s all about the glass.

janir (216) - Oulu, FINLAND - JUL 30, 2008
Very much reddish orange color with light brown, quite small, firm and lacy head. Aroma is caramel malty, spicy, hoppy, yeasty with some alcohol coming through. Flavor is sweet, spicy, syrupy and balanced with raisins. Palate is medium-bodied, practically no carbonation and a bit alcoholic.

I’ve seen this been served in Belgium into the almost chemistry class like test tube rack with mini yard glass - very unique. Good orange color and a bready taste. Superb beer.

bottle and not bad. full amber color with a big foamy head. Really carbonated(my bottle anyway) and flavorful. aromas hit you with yeast, fruit, sugar, and some spices...hard to tell which ones. Flavor is bready and a bit sweet, but finish is nice and balanced. pretty damn good beer.

bottle at louie’s in dallas. Nice sweet malt aroma with caramel flavor and slight spice. Good beer. Paid too much for it at louie’s though.
