3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured from 330ml bottle into glass goblet. Beautiful clear golden-brown colour, medium off-white head that reduced very quickly. Big aroma of sugary toffee and burnt malt, some coffee and spice. Flavour is complex but dominated by caramel toffee with dark chocolate, coffee and marshmellow. Full body with medium carbonation, a little thick but the alcohol is very well hidden making this beer very drinkable. Kwak was a beer that introduced me to real flavour and complexity in beer, it doesn’t hold up as a full on favourite beer for me these days, but is still quality stuff that shows a well made big beer.
Enjoyed 4 years after its bottling date of 01.08.2014, Pauwel Kwak was noticeably smooth, malty, and cohesive. Clear amber coloring with a creamy off-white head. Toasted malt and sugar on the nose. A hint of the dried red and dark fruits that are more prominent on the palate. Large caramel presence. Notes of raisins and ribes. Sweet rather than tart fruitiness. Texture is soft. There's a bit of alcohol warmth, and virtually no hoppy bitterness. Some subtle Belgian spice character. Excellent. serch_kaiba (35) - - JAN 20, 2018
UPDATED: JAN 20, 2018 Bottiglia 33 cL, al naso è dolcissima, frutta e caramello. In bocca arrivano subito il lievito e il malto caramello. Segue l'alcol. Molto facile da bere nonostante la gradazione. Una belga classica e facile da bere. GreenCat (216) - SLOVENIA - JAN 20, 2018
0,33 l bottle. Pours clear copper with average off white head. Aroma of malt, some caramel, nicely fruity, mainly stone fruit and some dried figs, sweet candied sugar, a hint of alcohol. Body is medium to heavy sweetness, medium bitter. Body is full, texture oily and carbonation average. Finish is extra long, starts malty, followed by herbal hop notes, medium bitterness and alcohol. Feeling of alcohol stays for a while, but it's not annoying. Maybe not as complex as similarly strong top tripels, but very well rounded and drinkable beer. Alcohol is felt, but it's not annoying. malibrat (86) - Pula, CROATIA - JAN 14, 2018
UPDATED: JAN 14, 2018 Pivo u flaši. Jedna meni posebna Belgijska piva. :) BreweryHopper8 (3) - - JAN 14, 2018 does not count

UPDATED: JAN 14, 2018 Birra fantastica! Colore ambrato scuro, modesta schiuma e poco persistente, all'olfatto sentori di caramello e frutta.
I’ll never get used to the glass that Kwak is served in. Review from memory (from recent Belgium trip). 330ml bottle poured into trademark Kwak glass. I'll have to try this again, I think. jinroh (2466) - ESTONIA - JAN 7, 2018
Bottle from Beery Christmas advent calendar. Pours deep amber, quite clear actually, light beige foam that disappears quite quickly. Nose has some sweet candy sugar, caramel and lightly bitter booze. Belgian yeast for sure. Tastes quite sturdy, candy sugar and Belgian yeast spiciness, some dried yellow plums and light grassy bitterness. Quite dry, drinks easily and finish is warmed up by its abv a bit, light bitter tingle. Classical Belgian, not bad but well, they also never wowed me. miki74 (139) - Sabadell, SPAIN - JAN 2, 2018

Bottle at home in Beer Hawk advent calendar. It’s ages since I had one of these. A dark pour with a rich caramel flavour and lots of bass notes. There was low carbonation which was welcome. It was sipped in an ideal spot in front of the fire having put the kids to bed and struggling to get my tablet to work.
