COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our beer naming sessions find us scouring the dark recesses of our minds for the one perfect title. After a year’s worth of planning and hundreds of possible names for our Dark IPA, we had yet to reach a consensus. What’s in a name? More importantly, "what’s in the beer?" The answer to that is complex dark malts and an abundance hops. It’s a bold brew with deep flavor and character. We’ll let it speak for itself.

Little to no discernable nose; A hoppy bitter malt taste on front pallet with a bitter, very slight burnt malt taste for a long lingering finish.

Bottle split with Deyholla. Thanks for the Iowan CDA tick! Deep brown with a tan head. Moderately cheesy hop character on the nose. Some pine and cocoa. Chocolate cookies. Hints of dill and general herbs. Definitely unique. Taste is a little more straightforward. Pine chocolate ice cream. Dry bitterness. Earthy roast. Solid effort.

Pretty close to black color, tan head. Aroma of grapefruit and pine. The roast comes in at the taste, along with light citrus and piney bitterness. Very tasty.

Bottle. Pours black with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a nice combination of light pine, a bit of grass and some dark grains nd bread notes. Flavor has a bit of chalky dark grains with a light roast and a good amount of grass and pine.

22 oz bottle purchased at Beer Crazy in Urbandale, Iowa. The pour is opaque black dark chestnut brown with a smallish light tan head. The aroma is pine hop, black licorice patent malt and a alcohol heat. The taste is the malt black licorice right away, sharp, then bright pine, bit of a roast and then finishes with a decent blast of heat in the dry finish. Came together some as it warmed. The palate is medium to light bodied, fine carbonation and the hot dry finish. Just OK.

This is a delicious black IPA. Excellent combination of dark malts and hops! Rich and black in color with a rich foamy head.

Draft. Pours cola color with off white head. Nice lacing. A little hop in the nose. Pine and coffee? In the taste.

Pours basically black with a good sized head and nice lacing on the glass.

Oh neat it’s one of those black IPAs where it just smells hoppy & there is no roast. I dig these kind the most. It’s got a big citrus & melon hop character, pungent, fresh & fruity smelling.

The flavor is nice, plenty hoppy with a mild bitterness. The roast is fairly subdued but noticeable & there is a touch or licorice. The hop character is fruity but not maybe as bright as I would like. It’s a boozy one, but not terribly so.

Really enjoyable stuff.
