High quality pale, carmel, chocolate and Munich malts get a boost with roasted and chocolate rye. Dark and Light Belgian Candy Sugar is added to the kettle during the boil for smoothness and flavor. Belgian yeast gives off some fruity esters and the brew is delicately hopped so as to not overpower the malt flavors.

Dark brown. Overwhelming foamy head. Dark roasted. Rye bread. Spices. I love porters, but dont really like this. Kinda reminds me of a belgian beer with burnt malt.

Bottle. Pours a very dark brown with medium tan head that lasts. The aroma is cocoa and roasted malts. Thin mouth, chocolate, toasted malt, ash, boozy, decent.

Bottle. A- Cocoa, subtle rye. A- Black color, dark liquid, light brown head. T- Rye, cocoa, malty. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, balanced finish. O- All around this was a solid porter. But as good as it was, it was pretty one dimensional. Again, hard to complain but hard to love.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass at Vaudeville Mews. Black appearance with a minimal tan head. Dark, malty, light spiced flavor with notes of rye, toffee, chocolate, roast, caramel and light fruity esters. Definitely some off notes and flavors in there too. Kinda shitty and hard to drink.

Black with a creamy beige head. Aroma is pretty standard porter. Flavor is similar with a healthy dose of earth notes. Not a lot in the way of rye spice. Pretty solid porter but I wish the rye was more prominent.

12oz bottle from Happys, Cedar Falls, June 2014. Black pour with a nice tan head, good lacing. Okay aroma, roasted malts, sweetness, a little astringent, fruity. Decent flavor, coffee, roast, rye bready, fruity, a little acidic. Eh.

12 oz. bottle. Dry and dusty aroma features scents of coffee with sugar, brown sugar, raisin, pumpernickel bread, Brazil nuts, and peanut dust. Pours a very dark brown with a medium brown to amber hue. Small to moderate amount of beige head. Nutty, dry taste features flavors of mocha and rye bread. A touch of sugary sweetness. Not spicy, as some rye beers are; more of a dry, roasted, nutty, umami taste. Light to medium body; maybe a bit watery. Smooth and soft in the palate. Reasonably complex and interesting, but these arent my preferred flavors and aromas.
