Pours a very dark brown with just a little light coming through, large tan head that leaves some good lace. Aroma is pine, citrus, chocolate, and roasted malts. Flavour is pine, roasted malts, light citrus, medium bitterness, and chocolate. bulldogops (2726) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - DEC 25, 2013
Rating #847 - December 21, 2013 - Beer 21 from the Craft BeerAdvent Calendar. Pours a cinematic black, with a bubbly tan head. Aroma is a violent clash between toasted malt, and floral piney hops. Taste is extremely hoppy, tempered with a pleasant coffee, chocolate, burnt sugar sweetness that disguises the higher abv quite well and is beyond refreshing. Unreal. realjb29 (27) - olean, New York, USA - DEC 24, 2013
Pours very dark with nice thin white head. The aroma is nice mix of citrus hops with a touch of pineapple and pine with some molasses and roasty notes as well. The initial taste is of hops strong citrus and pine with subtle mango notes. Mid taste is more malty with chocolate, coffee, licorice, currants, molasses and burnt sugar notes. Finishing taste is earthy, herbal with very resinous bitterness that lingers on the tongue. It has a chalky feel on the palate and it seems to be of average mouth feel. A decent black ipa. I like the bitter finish but would prefer it to wane a bit sooner. The chalky mouth feel is the major negative to an otherwise good beer. I like the the upfront citrus tones and would rebuy this beer. DuffMan (10612) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - DEC 23, 2013
Bottle, Craft Beer Advent Calendar 2013. Dark brown, tan head. Hoppy aroma, ripe papaya and berries. Sweet fruity hop dominance, dark malts peek from below. Medium bitterness. slimspady (219) - Lethbridge, Alberta, CANADA - DEC 22, 2013
Day 21 CBAC. Pours black, thin head. Love the back and forth of the malts and hops. Smooth, medium palate. Decent representation of the style. Good beer.

Black with big brown head. Lots of chocolatey malt, light pine hop aroma. Taste is mostly chocolate, coffee, toffee, lacking in the hop flavour but there is a strong bitterness too.decent stuff I’d prefer to try fresher. pintbypint (3770) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - DEC 21, 2013
12oz brown bottle from Craft Beer Advent Calendar ’13. Dark brown in the glass, a few fingers of brown head survive through the drink. Nose has chocolate malts and some hops. Taste has earth, chocolate malt, roast. Late hop kick and some solid bitterness. Aftertaste has earth and roast and hops, alcohol stays hidden well. Nice. hamfisted (74) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - DEC 21, 2013
Advent calendar. Nice beer. Pours rich and dark, this is more of a porter than a black IPA. Malty, oily and a bit of bitterness and citrus on the back end. MunBro (942) - St. Albert, Alberta, CANADA - DEC 21, 2013
Craft Beer Calendar day 22. Aroma is of malts, dark chocolate, pine, earth. Tastes of roast malts and chocolate; also has really nice clear citrus notes which come in after the initial malt blast of oranges, tangerines, grapefruit. I enjoyed this one. CBAC day 21. Pours an opaque black with a nice brown head and lots of sticky lace. Aroma of citrus hops, orange, grapefruit, roasted malts, light chocolate and pine. Taste is roasted malts, chocolate, grapefruit, citrus hops, pine and a nice bitterness throughout. Medium low carbonation and a very well balanced beer of malts and hops and very smooth for the high abv. Love this black ipa.
