This winter wheat beer uses dark malting to provide subtle toasty notes. We then single-hop and dry-hop this beer with Citra hops from our friend Brad’s farm. Interesting pineapple notes from the Citra hop provide a stark contrast to the toasty notes in the body. An engaging and sessionable Winter Seasonal. ABV: 5% IBUs: 62

   AROMA 7/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 6/10   PALATE 4/5   OVERALL 13/20
ben4321 (6503) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - JAN 31, 2013
Location: 12 oz bottle from State Line, 1/31/13

Aroma: The nose is fairly sweet and sugary, with leaves, tea, fruity notes, and a little caramel
Appearance: It pours a dark reddish-brown color with a tan head and mid-heavy lace
Flavor: Tastes mid-plus sweet, lots of odd leafy notes, some tea flavor, and a light-mid bitterness
Palate: The body is light-medium, it drinks cleanly, with average carbonation, and a mild dryness
Overall Impression: This is some solid stuff, not a favorite for me, but sold stuff. There are a few different things going on, but overall, it works pretty well. For a winter beer with a nice low ABV, I could see this being an easy one to session. Interesting, but still clearly not great.

Bottle from Saveur bière.com Roasted malt really presents. Quite drinkable

Tranquillity (2328) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 27, 2017
Bottled. The body is dark brown with a jinx beige head. The aroma has sweet malts. The taste is sweet and has some herbal tones. Quite good.

skortila (5850) - Baarn, NETHERLANDS - APR 14, 2017
Bottled. 15cl sample. The aroma has toffee malt, citrus, some spicy tones. Bit hazy, brown coloured beer with a thin head. The taste is light-moderate bitter with sweetish caramel maltiness, citric hops, some pine. Easy drinker. Quite nice.

12-ounce can pours cloudy orange with small off-white head. It’s a darker color than typical IPA. Aroma: malt, smoke, hops. Flavor: roasted malt, like a brown ale; nutty, hoppy. Very drinkable. Thin mouthfeel.

Bottle at home. Pale brown with a medium off-white head. Light to medium body with moderate carbonation. Subtle bitter and sweet tones. Bread, caramel, malts, subtle pine and fruits. OK brew.

erickok (6037) - Leuven, BELGIUM - MAR 23, 2017
Brown, small head. Surprisingly hoppy, very pine and citrus, nice. Dry taste of tasted malts. Quite the contrast! Interesting and flavourful brew, yet very drinkable. Fun brown versus hoppy combo. Nice. (33cl bottle from Saveur Bière)

Marstonlad (884) - Helsinki, FINLAND - MAR 18, 2017
Bottle from Alko, Helsinki. Pours dark brown with a little frothy head. The aroma features sweet and toasty maltiness with caramel, fudge and raisin rising to the forefront. Taste is heavily sweet, displaying caramel, berries, ripe fruitiness and fudge. Cloying, malt sweetness overshadows hoppiness completely. The palate is light to medium bodied, a little sticky and above average in carbonation. Not bad in the sense of being ruined but one-dimensional and slightly unbalanced. Less sweetness, more bitterness would have been in order.

CloakedDagger (2481) - - MAR 6, 2017
Botle 35,5 cl. Pours amber with a slight haze and an off-white head. Dry, nutty nose. Medium body, extremely dry again again with these nutty accents and a slight metallic edge. Massive late bitterness. 060317

FinnIckler (479) - GERMANY - FEB 28, 2017
Bottle from saveur-biere.com. Pours clear brown. Nose is citrus, some toffee, dark fruits. Palate is bitter, some citrus. Not my taste.

tfontana (968) - Fremont, New Hampshire, USA - FEB 24, 2017
Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from Greg & Jane’s Beer and Wine. Appearance is mostly clear orange-brown (like light maple syrup) with trace sparkle, a few dark floaties, finger-width off-white foamy head with fair retention and light sudsy lacing. Aroma is mix of citrus, resiny and grapefruit hops over caramel malts--the mix is a bit like B.O. Taste is bitter grapefruit and resin with late toast/biscuit malt. Palate is medium bodied with thick texture, soft-to-average carbonation and mostly bitter finish. Overall, there’s some complexity here but to me the aroma and flavor profiles just aren’t a good mix of hops and malts.
