3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On gravity cask served in an English nonic glass. Clear dark brown with a sticky khaki head. Smells of fruit, cereal, and a hint of dark fruit. The flavor is similar with touches of grass and pine. Full bodied with a lasting bitter finish. Quite pleasant.
Sample from tap at the brewery. A pitch black pour with a ring of tan head; aroma of woody hops and richly roasted malts; dry in the mouth with a bitter chocolate taste and a smooth body; with a lingering chocolate finish. Good stuff. TheJester (2543) - Cavan Monaghan, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 19, 2014
Pint on tap at the brewpub, on the balcony, as the fireworks explode. Bisons must have won tonight. Surprisingly good beer! Hits all the key points for aroma, colour, malt, hops, and bitterness. Definitely underrated. Ron (4183) - Rochester, New York, USA - MAR 25, 2012
Sample at the Pub. Nice black pour. Aroma of lite hops and sweet malt. Thin malty flavor with a little hops balance. Decent Ontbeertaster (3208) - Ontario, CANADA - NOV 5, 2011
Tap at the brewpub, listed as 6.5%, splendid brew, aroma is very nice bit of citrus and a bit of pine, taste is similar. it is well balanced, with the malts and hops. It was just a really solid brew, very good, keep brewing this pete4999 (1445) - Buffalo, New York, USA - DEC 22, 2010
On tap at Pearl Street. I liked it, although it wasn’t quite as hoppy as I was hoping. Just seemed like a combo of a hoppy amber and a porter. Definitely had a smoky/roasty feel to it. It poured very dark, nearly opaque with a somewhat tan head. Pretty good, one of their better beers, IMO.

2010-12-03. Dark brown body with a small frothy beige head and lace. Flavour is interesting, sweet base malt, bit of fruit, dry bitterness, light roast, dark dusty malt touches. Aroma is kind of gross but that may be the environment rather than the beer (I hope?), with soapy bile notes intermittently. Lightly nutty mild roast character, gives the impression of debittered black malt at times but I am speculating and it is late in the evening. Average palate is pleasantly smooth. Okay, bit odd but I would try it again to compare. Cask at Goodbar, Buffalo mabel (9787) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 10, 2010
[3503-20101203] Cask. Sweet and syrupy malt aroma. Clear, dark brown red-hued body with a quick foamy off-white head. Earthy poop flavour has a lingering poop aftertaste with syrupy sugar notes throughout. Medium-full body. Blecch, not in the mood for this tonight.

Draft. Pours near black with a beige head. Light roasty aroma with some citric hoppy notes. The flavor has spicy and citric hops and roasted malts. Just the right amount of bitterness. Solid.
