COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pours a rich deep red, with a medium sweet palate. Made with heritage Moutere apples and boysenberries grown on our orchard. Fresh-picked, intense flavours of boysenberry with real cider background. We grow Riwaka Choice boysenberries, known for their intense flavour, which we press in the cidery; the fragrant juice is sweetened and then blended with dry cider.

UPDATED: DEC 29, 2016 500 ml bottle from Louisville Beer Store; shared with Boo. Aroma: Moderate medicinal berry... something about it reminds me of Dimetapp cough syrup. Overall, the ratio of sweet to tart favors the former; not much base cider comes through. Appearance: Ruby, nearly opaque dark purple with very soft carbonation forming a bubbly light pink-purple head that quickly dissipates. Flavor: Base cider comes through much more than in the nose; Moutere seems to be bittersweet and picks up a decent amount of apple skin; overarching berry is not as medicinal, but is more tart and still mostly sweet. The finish lingers with sweet, tart and lightly medicinal flavors never quite giving way. Palate: Medium body, slick texture, soft carbonation, lingering finish. Overall: Not exactly sure how to feel about this one; it’s certainly interesting, and I continued to drink it with fascination. However, I was spurred on more by curiosity than enjoyment. I could see this working with some kind of savoury dish to offset it’s sweeter aspects.

Pours a deep burgundy-red with a small mauve head. Aroma is fermented apples with berry overtones. Taste is initially mildly tart apples. The flavor kind of drops off in the mid, then the boysenberry flavors start creeping in for the finish. There is a slight astringency that reigns in the mid that helps make this cider unusually complex. Like it, no doubt.

Bottle. Pours a deep clear ruby red with a white head that starts and remains at the edges. Aroma has a good amount of sweet apple with a touch of acid and some underlying boysenberry. Flavor has a combination of sweet apple and boysenberry with a bit of an acidic bite.

Bottle @ The Festival 2014. Dark red-purple pour. Nice color. There’s a slightly buttery but very sweet and fruity berry aroma. It’s almost like a boysenberry pie. Neat. Flavor has a bit more of a balance as there is a touch of acidity to it. A lot of berry jam, some grass, fruit skins, and red grape as well. Not as good as the Kir, but still nice.
