Growler, thanks to captiveodyssey, 11/2/2013. Pours thick black, thick tan mocha head settles to a nice crema on the surface. Aroma is dark chocolate, dosed with vanilla, molasses, and drizzled with dark fruity syrup, with great sweet fruity rum notes, lingering coffee and roast underneath. Pours dark black with no head. There was only a weak ring that hugged my glass. In the aroma I picked up on mild vanilla, defined rum, oak, and chocolate malts. In the flavor there is fruit like coconut rum, chocolate bitter malts, roasted malts, sugar sweetner, and vanilla. Overall a fine beverage. Swing top bottle -- thanks to Kevin L for sharing these! Pours dark cola brown, minimal tan head. Aroma is straight, harsh rum. Seriously smells like a spirit, with some imperial stout on the side. Taste is basically a shot of rum with some chocolate underneath. #2700. Thx to FlavioSP for telling me that the guys from the Mikkeller & To Øl @ Borefts 2013 were giving away this for free. Obv. thx to them for giving this away, I was taken a bit aback & they gave away a lot of other goodies as well during the festival. Sampled from a growler. I heard that a lot of these are infected in general & the rare which I also tried did have some issues but luckily this one wasn’t infected. Pours black with some mocha head only on the sides. Nose is huge vanilla, clear roast, smooth, maple syrup, creamy, touch vinous & molasses. Taste is slightly vinous, roast, syrup, caramel, brown sugar, clear roast, slight ash, grounded coffee beans, touch molasses, finish is warming & whilst not boozy, this clearly shows its ABV, barrel becomes a bit evident in the finish. Body is a bit on the lighter side for an RIS. A very nice beer but the hype for this one is completely inexplicable to me, I had better RIS’s at the festival. There is a lot of stuff that is better & way, way, way easier to get than this beer.

Sampled from bottle @ Borefts 2013. Thanks to whoever brought it to our table. Opaque pitch black color, no head. Smell and taste malts, vanilla, sweetness, lightly roasty, liquorice and alcohol. On tap at Mikkeller Bar SF. Dark black with a brown head that quickly vacates. Huge rum notes in the aroma. I can’t get enough! Very smooth and drinkable, with an almost minty and buttery edge, however the heavy barrel presence starts to make me wonder what other flavours it might be smothering, and also whether rum really complements a stout. It certainly worked well enough here, but they don’t strike me as perfect bedfellows. @RBWG-JAX Grand Tasting-thin lt brown-black that sheets. A-rum/wood, anise-dk malt. T-rum/wood, vanilla, rich chocolate-dk malt, some balancing hops. Occasional.

Growler shared by Steve. Black pour with a small tan head. Roast, rum, vanilla, chocolate on the nose; some tartness from infection up front, followed by coffee, chocolate, spice, wood. Very smooth, finishes bitter.
