Does this brewery ever make a beer that isn’t amazing, well-balanced, and scrumdilliumptios? If so, I haven’t tried such brew. This one, is named to commemorate a full house of medals won by the brewery at 2006’s Great American Beer Festival (Three golds, two silvers). This 8% gem is an imperial version of the Doryman Dark--winner of a gold medal for best American brown ale. With a glistening, dark red-brown hue and pleasant chocolatey malt finish, this beer is one of the best balanced beer so far. mattdev (74) - Oregon, USA - OCT 28, 2010
Pours a clear brown with not much head. Smells of caramel, biscuit and toast. Nearly no noticeable hop aroma. Taste is rich in caramel, heavy maltyness. Surprisingly there is not much linger or alcohol burn. BrewDad (5667) - Olympia, Washington, USA - NOV 26, 2010

Dark amber reddish color clear with a thin head. Lots of dark malt and spice in the flavor. There is a strong hops nose. Loved the flavor it is well balanced. Light with the chocolate malt and a smidge of caramel in the flavor also. Finishes smooth with a clean taste. Pelican is awesome again.
Bottle: Pours a dark brown color with a nice fluffy head and some lacing. The nose is malty with lots of caramel and light chocolate; ample roast and sweet melanoidin notes swimming amongst the clean light noble hops. The flavor has a heavy mouthfeel, but it’s not too sweet or bitter; very balanced. Plenty more chewy molasses and caramel notes in the finish with a very refreshing impact. Bottle at Max’s. Muddy brown with a light tan head. Nose of brown and caramelized sugar, soy sauce, citrus and pine. Flavor is pretty well balanced, caramel, pine and herbal hops. Pretty good. beerinmarch (2830) - Washington, USA - DEC 4, 2006
On tap at the 2006 Holiday Ale Festival. I heard a lot of rumors about this, first that it was an imperial brown ale and also that it was just imperial dorrymans dark. This brew had a dry cocoa powder taste, which being around xmas reminds me of drinking hot chocolate, good holiday tie in. Lightly toasty with a medium body and mild bitter finish. Dark chestnut, creamy pale tan head, tight small bubbles, great retention. Big west coast hoppy nose mixed with creamy caramel, seemed to have a metallic edge but that left quickly. A bit light in body for what the specs suggest and it seems like there’s too much crystal malt. Or not enough chocolate. I enjoyed the full mouthfeel in the finish as the earthy hops came through.
