2009 Vintage
Tasted on 1/7/13 from a capped 650mL bomber bottle sent to me as an extra in a trade long ago. Pours opaque cola brown with very thin lace that quickly disappears, leaving nothing. The nose is all about the caramel malt with toffee, malty toast, and some esthery fruit. The flavor is a bit more with the fruitiness, and all of the caramel, toffee, and maple with some nice roasted bitterness on the back of the palate. The body is huge with light carbonation and a long malty sweet, lightly fruity, and nicely roasted bitter finish.

It pours very dark brown with a light brown head. Head retention is low. There are also legs evident. It has a strong malt aroma featuring caramel, toffee, and sherry like notes. There are some light marmalade like notes and strong alcohol notes. There is also a bit of roast and toasty elements. It is very malty rich with bread, dark caramel and molasses. There are some nutty elements and a slight musty element as well. It is full bodied to the point of being chewy. It has a smooth alcohol warmth to it with low carbonation. Overall, it is a strong alcohol display that highlights malty flavors from start to finish.

While I have a lot of love for the aggressive West Coast Barleywine, Pelican Stormwatchers Winterfest makes for a beautiful glass of English-style liquid dessert. Stormwatchers Winterfest has an amber-brown appearance. Toffee, toasted sugar, oak, molasses, and apple smells. Malty and sweet flavor. Oaky vanilla, butterscotch, caramel, dessert wine, maple syrup, dried dark fruit, and subtle cocoa. Full-bodied, boozy, and rich. It'll stick to your bones and chase away the chill. Hot damn.

Bottle @ THT. Pours a deep dark amber beer with a medium sized, tanned creamy head on top. Aroma is very malty, lots of molasses, lots of booze, sweeter caramel, apples and red fruits. Flavor is great, strong, sweet and malty. Bit of an alcohol burn in the backend, the fruits remain troughout the palate. Soft carbonation, awesome balance and long sweet cloying aftertaste. Good stuff!!

Bottle, shared at July THT, in front of Kwartje. 2013 edition - I think it was called just Stormwatch? Dark brown color. Beige head, not much. Aroma’s: sweet, fruit, alcohol. Retronasal it’s sweet, caramel, alcohol/boozy, wood? Flavor is sweet, alcoholic. over medium bodied. Long finish. A bit too boozy for me.
