The Summer Ales of England inspire our newest seasonal beer, Surfers Summer Ale. With a brilliant gold color, and a fruity, tangerine-like aroma from the English First Gold hops, Surfers Summer Ale is a refreshing, tasty treat. A sweet, toasted malt flavor comes from the English Maris Otter malt, and combines with bread-like wheat character to give this beer a full-bodied, rounded malt aspect. Finishing smooth and clean, Surfers Summer Ale exhibits a wonderful balance of character.

2014 release features Glacier Hops and Golden Promise Malt.

pours a beautiful crystal clear golden color with a small bubbly head that slowly becomes a slight sheen on the top of the beverage. Theres definitely something off about the aroma. Its slightly skunky, slightly vegetal, and overall not very pleasant at all. I would almost argue that it has a slight lacto smell. I passed it to my girlfriend and she described the smell as "B.O. and urine". Maybe its infected? The taste is a bit less offensive, but still not very good. There is a slight nuttiness and sweetness coming from the golden promise and a VERY slight hint of spice from the hops. The spice lingers a bit after swallowing, and veers off into just a hint of bitter in the back of my throat. It pains me to say this, but this is going down the drain.

Tap at GABF. Pours a hazy orange gold with medium off white head that lasts. The aroma is wheat, biscuit, grass. Medium body, similar flavors to nose, light finish, decent.

Yellow in color with a thin white head. Aroma of pale malt, biscuit, and lemon juice. Nothing exciting about this one but Im not generally a "summer ale" guy.

Malty citrus. Excessively drinkable. The scent is to die for but it strangely turns to water in the mouth; the aroma is more than the flavor. For a summer sip it goes down easy!

Bottle. Pours with a crystal clear vibrant yellow hued body with a moderate white head. Decent retention and some lace. Aromas are of biscuity and doughy malt, mild floral and lemongrass like hop aromas, apricot, moderate fruit esters with a light nutty graininess from the malt. Flavors are dry with some chalkiness, doughy, bready, toasty. Moderate to low bitterness. Somewhat bland. Low esters, drinkable. Medium carbonation, thin bodied.

On tap at Tillamook pub. Pours out a golden topped with a small head. Nose is lemongrass citrus bread malts and some grains. Taste is as the nose with more of the citrus notes a nice little hop touch and a good grain taste.

Bottle. Nose is slightly bready with a moderate fruitiness and graininess. Almost a touch of diacetyl or something else going on in the aroma. Pour is very clear, yellowish with an orange highlight. Taste is a slightly sweet biscuit focused malty beer, with a light floral estery expression. A touch of bitterness keeps it dry. Refreshing and non offensive.

22 oz bottle shared by phaleslu. Pours a crystal clear dark golden color with a medium sized white head. The aroma and flavor have pale malts, bread, light citrus, grass, hints of florals. Served cold this would deliver nice refreshment on a hot summer day, but not much character for an everyday beer.
