This IPA is sure to ruffle some feathers and send true hop-heads looking for cover. To get us through the rainy season in the Pacific Northwest, weve brewed a New-World India Pale Ale using exclusively Australian grown Ella hops. The use of Ella hops offers an aroma that is filled with gooseberry and bright fruit. The fresh and zippy Ella hops are nicely balanced by a clean and light pale malt character. Weve liberally dry hopped Umbrella twice to add to its distinct and complex flavors. Go on, reach for an Umbrella and let it pour.

Bottle from QC. Drank w Matt at home. Pours a cloudy green-gold with white , Smells of tart bright citrus, tangerine, orange, gooseberry, light wood and peppery spice. Taste is moderate resin bitterness, very faint anise and wood, pale malt. Body is light to medium, fairly smooth and creamy, moderately stony bitter finish. Nice aroma and good showcase for the Ella hop (which Ive never encountered before). Bright and tart and berry-ish. Taste is a bit less interesting. Could be slightly more hop forward, but balanced and good overall.

HKdIPA (746) - HONG KONG - JAN 3, 2017
Bottle from QClub at home. Hazy bright orange/yellow pour with frothy white head. Bright tropical fruit and tart berry aroma with some bready malt (not that fresh maybe) and booze. Taste is a bit muddy - again not that fresh - but has nice notes of tart and sweet white grapes, some crisp apple, and bready malt with light booze. Smooth palate. Better than expected and would probably be really good fresh.

12 oz bottle from a six pack bought at Super 1. Aroma is citrus rind, citrus flesh, perfume, candied citrus. Pours hazy pale gold with a medium white head that falls into a ring fairly quick, leaving a little lace. Taste starts out candy sweet before turning medium-level bitter; flavors of citrus, alcohol. Perfect mouthfeel. Great stuff.

3fourths (9296) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - DEC 13, 2016
September 23 2016 bottle. Mostly clear still gold with a sticky white head. Tropical fruit, hop-focused nose smelling of green melon, cas, herbs, with a small honey-like malt touch. Medium bodied, bitter-sweet and a little syrupy but well-balanced for IPA, finishing sticky, bitter, lip-smacking, and a little resinous. It very much embodies the NZ-style southern hemisphere IPA, all of the fun tropical fruit hoppiness without the garlic, pine, or cat pee notes that are so inexplicably popular in the US. Ella seems to be a brighter expression of old world hop characteristics, similar to what we see from Huell Melon, Mandarina, Opal, and others.

22 oz bottle poured. Hurting for an IPA all day! Pours a lighter golden color with a thin fizz head. A juicy fruit aroma from a distance. A lighter overall feel for an IPA with potency. A crusher for sure. Balanced soft malt and juicy hops. A short lived bomber here in my household football viewing party of one. Delicious.

Pours a clear yellow with a large white bubbly head and good lacing. Smell is lagerish, hops, straw, and just a wee bit of malt. Taste is creamy, hoppy, some earth, and malt. Ends dry and a little bitter.

This is a great IPA. I drink it kinda frequently when given the choice of IPAs. Its very fresh tasting and a bit fruity. Serve ice cold.
