Thick foam head. Dark color (as the name says), but overall nothing special. Average tasting at best. Nothing stands out. Don’t plan to drink again. Nice pic on bottle. solidfunk (9819) - Washington D.C., Washington DC, USA - OCT 15, 2016
Some roast and generally easy drinking. Black pour with good head and lacing. Crisp finish with hint of malt tang. Like halfway between dunkel and schwarzbier. Bottle. PanMarek (465) - Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 2, 2016
Sweet, caramel malt nose with touches of toffee. Pours dark reddish with beige foam. Malt comes out in the taste, dominated by caramel but also dried fruit and maybe a little chocolate. Good hops in the end but the finish is sweet.

12oz bottle at Moonstruck (Asbury Park) for wife’s birthday. Poured a darker brown color with a small foamy tan head. Taste and aroma of bad chocolate, nutshell, caramel, bitter dark malts, and yeast. beerme31 (707) - Holly Springs, North Carolina, USA - MAR 4, 2016
Bottle. Dark brown, thin tan head. Mild bready malt aroma. Medium sweet taste. Medium-light bitterness, light body. Good overall.

DATE TASTED: August 27, 2015 ... GLASSWARE: 22 oz. Pilsner... OCCASION: having returned from the annual soccer coaches’ meetings... APPEARANCE: dark red, almost burgundy body that supports a one-finger brown head... The head settles swiftly to a resilient ring and little else in the middle... too dark to track its effervescence... AROMA: candied, almost cherry cola in its hints... Slightly doughy, with minimal hops... PALATE: slightly warming, slick, almost flat... Dry, medium-bodied.... TASTE: an odd, vegetable flavor begins the profile... Grape, cola, some earthy elements that redeem the initial effect... Cough drop and raisin also are suggested... Not the compliment to the pilsner... OVERALL: Drinkable and steady, but not a beer that can be called a standout or a strong representation of its style... A beer that could use some dimension to its flavor profile... Peaty like scotch, in a strange way...

Tap @ Hotel Monaco. Dark brown with thin head. Smells like dark bread. Balanced- not too bitter or sweet. floydslip (436) - Washington DC, USA - AUG 8, 2015
Deep chestnut brown beer with a thin light tan head that subsides quickly into a surface film. Rather non-descript nose of nuts, brown sugar, and pumpernickel, but you have to search for all of it. Flavor is more pronounced with an initial candied nut sweetness with layers of caramel and brown sugar that is quickly set off by a smoky bitterness. Rather light on the pallet, this is a decent beer. burg326 (5672) - Florida, USA - JUL 18, 2015
Dark brownish color with aromas of dark malt, light cocoa, some bread and a touch of caramel. Flavors follow suit decent funkel, liked it not crazy but true to style. SSSteve (4006) - - JUN 27, 2015
